LDV Terron states its case

Since its initial ‘look-and-see’ launch late last year, the LDV Terron has been keeping a low profile but stock is popping up on dealer floors so South African motorists facing a choice between a bakkie’s rugged capability and a family car’s everyday comfort now have something new to consider.

With the LDV Terron 9, that trade-off is less of a given. Designed as a double-cab that aims to deliver on both fronts, the Terron 9 blends the practical strengths of a workhorse with the refinement, cabin technology and ride quality more typical of a modern SUV. It enters a busy segment as a competitive option for buyers looking for more than just traditional bakkie attributes.

Available from R779 900 in two specification levels, the Terron 9 is positioned as LDV’s premium double-cab bakkie. It pairs SUV-like interior comfort with a towing capacity of 3 500 kg and genuine off-road ability.

LDV has built on its experience in the commercial vehicle space, and the Terron 9 continues that approach with a focus on the lifestyle-bakkie formula. Its design, practicality and driver-focused layout remain distinctive even as more competitors enter the local market.

Visually, the Terron 9 has a broad, muscular stance with upright lines, LED headlights incorporating daytime running lights, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Roof rails come as standard, while the flagship model adds an electric tailgate and a panoramic sunroof. Across the range, ground clearance is 220 mm, with a wheelbase of 3 300 mm.

Inside, the double-cab offers leather upholstery, dual 12,3-inch displays, a JBL audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated multifunction steering wheel and heated and ventilated seats – including a massage function for the driver’s seat.

Advanced driver assistance systems include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with forward and rear collision warning, lane-keeping aids, blind-spot assist, parking and visibility support as well as traction control, hill-start assist, hill descent control and tyre pressure monitoring. The Terron 9 holds a five-star ANCAP safety rating (2024) and comes with seven crash bags.

Under the bonnet, a 2,5-litre turbo-diesel engine produces 164 kW and 520 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system.

Drive modes – Normal, Eco, Sport, Mud, Snow, Sand, Tow, Rock, Wade and Crawl – allow the driver to adjust behaviour across different surfaces. Front and rear differential locks, together with an intelligent torque-on-demand system, improve traction and control in off-road conditions.

The LDV Terron 9 is sold with a 5-year or 200 000km warranty. Colour options include Blanc White, Jewel Blue, Metal Black, Cement Ash, Desert Yellow and Spruce Green.

For South Africans looking for a double-cab that can handle work duties, family transport and weekend trips without leaning too far in one direction, the Terron 9 offers a compelling alternative.
