Q: Hi, I have 2017 Golf 7 1lt TSI doing 200000km that is freehold . No mechanical issues to note of. I'm not in the market to just replace it, however considering the age and mileage and any known issues, should I consider selkine trading it in and financing a new vehicle with primary motivation to get something more reliable. Thanks Mo
A:
My advice is keep it. You have had the car since new and as per our discussion its not giving you trouble at all. It looks great and to replace it you will need to add in another R250 000 minimum. -
Q: Hi Mikey I hope you are well. I am currently looking to buy a car and found a Toyota Rav 4 2014 at We Buy Cars that is sitting at 209 000 km for R180 000 with a partial service history, my budget for a car is R8000 a month I am looking to buy something spacious and reliable (hence the Toyota) so my question is do you think this is a good deal, the Dekra report doesn’t seem to have any issues, based on your excellent industry experience, do you think this is a good deal that won’t need me to fixing issues and paying more ?
A: Yes
The answer is YES! I have so much faith in any Toyota and the Rav 4 of that era is superb. We Buy Cars have a wide selection of vehicles and I would like to advise you to go in and spend a few hours at their incredible facilities and choose the vehicle you like. -
Q: Hi I would like your advice on buying a used car on a budget between 100 to 120k, as a car that would be used to travel from home to mostly and sometimes around the province of KZN. I would rarely find my self traveling to another province. The car must be able to fit at least four individuals, durability is my main concern Thank you Big shout out to your Channel
A:
Thank you so much for the support and such a kind comment. It is my pleasure to assist. The key for me is not so much the year but rather mileage and ideally you want under 140 000km. What is also critical is you “cant speak German” you only speak Japanese or Korean :) Honda, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan and off course Suzuki and Toyota. Kindly visit our site www.changecars.co.za and use the filters to search within your parameters. Quality is there if you know what you are looking for…. Wishing you the very best -
Q: Hi Say I have between 100 to 120k in cash and I need a used car( preferably a VW, Toyota, Hyundai e.t.c) that is a student vihacle, which car would you recommend
A: Maybe
Hi Ndumiso Thank you for the reach out and a pleasure to assist. I am glad you only speak Korean or Japanese and not German! The absolute key always is mileage and not age. As an example check this exceptional vehicle out https://www.changecars.co.za/new-or-used-cars-for-sale/honda-cars/ballade/gauteng/jansen-park/904086 Honda is quality, reliable and not a theft risk and this vehicle is being sold by a quality trusted CHANGECARS Dealership. I am available at anytime on 083 377 5432 if you require any personal assistance. -
Q: Hi, hoping you can give some advice. I have a 2018 Honda Jazz Sport Cvt. It has 140 000 kms on the clock. Runs like a dream. Absolutely no issues. I've made sure to keep it serviced and well maintained. I keep wondering if need to replace....only because I would like something with more ground clearance. But with what?? Honda Crv is a crazy price. Forgot to mention I need boot space for my diving gear and the Honda Jazz has huge space for a small car. My gear does not fit in the cx3. Should I just keep it until it dies???? Thanks so much for your channel. Love listening Regards Janet
A: Yes
Why Honda stopped the Jazz is more difficult for me to answer than what came first the Chicken or the egg! Reality is keep without a shadow of doubt ….. Lets look at the positives incl all you have said below…. Its good looking, its ultra reliable and its not a theft risk…. The negatives? Swiftly moving on.. I assure you I do not sit on the fence, but rather always call it as it really is. I am on 083 377 5432 if ever I can assist. Warm regards and thank you for the podcast support -
Q: Hi there which family car would you recommend for R400k. Whats important to me is the drive, safety and fuel economy. Were considering the Chery Tiggo Cross but not happy with the drive and fuel consumption.thanks
A:
We would unhesitatingly recommend the Corolla Cross Hybrid. All the Toyota virtues and fuel efficient! The Chery is a nice option, but a Toyota it is not! -
Q: Hi I drive an Audi 1.0 TFSI 2020 model. I bought the car used in 2024 and its currently sitting on 94 000kms with extended maintenance plan until 2026. I bought the car with an intention to change it in 3 years. Basically, covid19 had a financial impact on my life hence I sold the BMW G20 (320i) I owned but things are starting to look great again. I am generally a BMW fan and the Audi I’m driving is not comparable to the G20 I drove, but, its a comfortable car, good fuel consumption and drives well with no issues currently. Should I keep the Audi for a little bit longer or stick to my plan of selling it in 2027 even if I wont have issues at the time? The car is financed by the bank Thanks
A:
You have a positive situation either way. If you look to sell it, the vehicle will be an easy sell with the maintenance plan in place. I personally would keep it, its a nice car, a car that is low risk and a car you know. Why start a completely new 60 or 72 Months finance agreement. If it ain't broken don't fix it :) -
Q: Good day, Vehicle 2015 Audi Q5 2.0tdi Quattro S Tronic Kilometre when bought: 240 000km Current mileage 260 000km Ownership Duration 6months Bought from we buy cars.Bought cash for R160 000 Serviced vehicle twice about R10 000 for both Replaced Tyres R10 000 Replaced battery R5 000 Since owning the vehicle it has been now the second time in an minor accident.Once it has been damaged front left and secondly someone hit from behind also left.It has FSH and Dotsure cover This vehicle will be fixed by insurance.Should I keep it or sell it.Do I trade it or go back to We Buy cars.Keeping in mind the mileage and further maintenance cost due eg shocks DSG service Timing belt replacement, brakes. There's nothing wrong with the vehicle Im only scared of future maintenance cost.Im happy with the vehicle but I know after the second accident it wont be the same anymore its just that I bought it with to much kilometers on the clock and Im taking the big hit on maintenance cost now not knowing parts will be so expensive Family of 5 mostly short trips and occasional quarterly holiday. What do I replace it with. Your advice will be appreciated
A: Maybe
Hi Shaun Thank you for the reach out, it is valued. Let me start by saying I am a huge Audi fan and always will be. I counter that with I am vehemently anti high mileage German vehicles. They will with very few exceptions become troublesome and that is sadly a guarantee. In your case a 10 Year old 260 000km with a accident history is now simply unappealing and I say that with no malice. My advice is get hold of WBC at your convenience and sell it. Re replacement, depending on budget I would recommend Lexus as its premium and essentially Toyota. Alternatively Mazda is truly superb and I am a big fan. I hope this helps and www.changecars.co.za works with quality Dealerships. Warm regards -
Q: Client Message: I have a 2019 Ecosport 1.0 eco boost auto Titanium with 80000km. As a pensioner and looking for reliability going forward should I keep or change to something like Suzuki or Toyota?
A: Yes
Sell it without question. The Ford product is not quality and that is the sad reality. I have shared our Podcast series and a simple look at the comments will verify it. Suzuki, Toyota, Honda, Mazda as well as Kia and Hyundai the exact opposite! -
Q: Good morning, I have a 2019 Isuzu Dteq Kb300 double cab, 75000km. It is paid off. Do I keep it or do I look at getting something along the lines of a small suv like a Jimny? Cheaper to run and insurance will be a pro, but size and practicality goes to Isuzu.
A: Yes
You are in a win win situation. Huge Isuzu admirer and big fan of Suzuki. In your case I am leaning towards keeping it as its a better allround fit and offers more. -
Q: Dear Michael and Nicky, Good day to you both. I absolutely love your show, your transparency, honesty, and the depth of information you provide are truly refreshing and much appreciated! I have a quick question regarding my vehicle. I purchased a 2013 Land Rover Discovery 4 XS TDV6 (without air suspension, sunroof, electric seats, satellite navigation, etc.) from my father when it had approximately 128,000 km on the clock. He bought it new and the vehicle has a full Land Rover calendar service history, and my father never took it off-road. Since the expiration of the maintenance plan, I have continued servicing it through reputable Land Rover specialist workshops (not agents). The vehicle currently has 190,000 km on the clock and I am happy to report that it remains in excellent condition and it has never given me any issues whatsoever (touch wood). It will be fully paid off within the next two months. My question is: how much longer can I realistically and reliably continue using the vehicle, considering that my wife drives it daily for school runs and general shopping???? Additionally from both a financial and practical perspective when would be a good time to consider selling it? And with what does one replace it with… We truly love the Landy’s comfort, reliability, and incredible boot space make it an irreplaceable companion on long road trips. I must admit there is also some sentimental value attached to it… Looking forward to your insights. Kind regards,
A: No
You have in my opinion one of the finest vehicles on the road. It is worth R300 000 and is giving you R1m plus of vehicle. A car like that, that is so well maintained will not go from no issues to issues. The car is being well looked after, driven lightly and maintained. You have a recipe for a long happy marriage :.. Only a Discovery 5 is going forward and at R1m plus extra I would not do it. To replace it with a Chery or Omoda, Jaecoo etc. would be the ultimate step backwards. Your Disco 4 will continue to deliver if you look after it as you have. -
Q: Hi, I need to buy a car for my daughter. She is studying in Potch and we l8ve in Centurion. I want to get something that is a bit bigger and bigger wheels. From the answers on the site i gather ford ecosport not a big fan. I looked at a nissan juke, 2019, 40000km on the cloc k. There is also a juke, 2013 model with 90000 and auto wich is attractive. I also looked at a mazda cx3 with 68000 on the clock. What is your take on these vehicles as well as a older qasqhai. Do you think it makes sense to look at something older, or should one bite the bullet for something newer and smaller Thanks for taking the time
A: Maybe
I am most anti Ford due to their ongoing problems. The Juke is great but past its sell by date. My suggestion with eyes open is the Mazda CX3. Its safe, modern low risk and just a Toyota in Mazda Skin :)) -
Q: Good day, I am a big fan of your show and love the honest no bull approach you guys use. I am considering buying a 2012 Audi Q5 3.0 TDi Quattro with 107000km’s on the clock. The car has a full service history and the Dealership is renowned for selling good quality motors with warranties (MitMak Motors). I am drivig a Suzuki Swift with 31000km’s on the clock and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle except for the size. I am looking for something bigger and a little more robust. I am not going off road with the vehicle except for the odd gravel road here or there. Also, I do not want to have a monthly payment and will be doing a cash deal as I do not owe anything on ny Swift. Do you think it is a good idea or should I just keep my Suzuki and wait
A: Yes
You have made my job easy : I am a huge Audi Fan and the Q5 with the 3.0TDi is s solid buy. Mit Mak are superb and the km's of 107 000km at R200 000 make it a unhesitating yes! -
Q: Hi,which option is better when buying a car, to personally Apply for my finance from the bank or let the dealer apply for me?
A: Maybe
My personal advice is always through the Dealer, it just makes the process a lot smoother for all. I hope this helps. -
Q: Hi, My name is Tumelo and I am from Pretoria. My dream car since high school has always been a megane RS because I thought its well designed , looked sportier, more unique and faster than a golf GTI or ford focus ST. Now I am much older and in a fortunate position to finally buy a hot hatch. My options are between RS 300 Trophy and I30N. RS 300 because always been a dream car is relatively unknown yet to me it is a beast of a vehicle, thrilling to drive and puts a smile to my face. I30N because it is feature packed is thrilling to drive Softer ride More reliable and to cheaper to maintain after warranty and maintenance plans expire Better resale value. I have driven both cars yet I can't make a decision. After each drive I think the one I have just driven is the best but when it's time to sign on the dotted line I always think about the other one. Therefore which one do you think is the better option, Do I buy with younger me in mind (RS300) or responsible me (I30N) Kind regards
A: Maybe
Hi Tumelo Wow )))))))))) I am smiling and a big smile. Firstly a huge congratulations on being able to realize that dream. Much respect… You don’t make it easy for me as I equally love both and I am serious when I say I would have to flip a coin. Sensible option is the Hyundai as I believe it will ultimately be the better long term option and more reliable and easier to maintain to a very high standard. If you want the car that says I have arrived and I know my S#$# it’s the Renault as its that Poster Car that all boys dreamed of. If you say Mike “make the decision for me” I am going with the i30N I just have more faith in the Hyundai Dealer Network. Send pics on 083 377 5432 to a very envious Mike… Huge Congrats -
Q: Hi there, I’m a big fan of your podcast. I just need a little advice on a car purchase. Do you think it is a good idea to sell my Nissan NP200 and purchase a mark 6 golf gti with 100000km mileage? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. All the best to you guys.
A: Yes
I so appreciate the kind words and always a pleasure to assist. In terms of the question we not comparing Apples with Apples. I have huge respect for the NP200 and absolutely love the Golf 6 GTi.. 100 000km is exceptionally low and its critical that you are sure of the quality of the seller. It’s a huge step forward in terms of vehicle no question! Wishing you more than the very best -
Q: Hi I need a bit of advise, I drive a 2009 Toyota yaris. Originally the car was a rental(Avis), after which my sister bought the car with 70000KM on the clock. They emigrated to New Zealand 5 years ago and I bought the car from her. I use my car for work and travel quite alot, not so much long distances but daily trips to clients. Since the car has been in the family there has never been any mechanical issues what so ever. The car is also paid off and insurance is cheap. My question is should I start looking to replace my yaris as it currently has 270000KM on the clock which has been mostly driven by myself. I maintain my car and try to look after it to the best of my knowledge. The car has also never missed a service or have been late for a service. Should I look at trading-in VS selling and also if I should sell the car in the first place?. What car should I look at buying if I do sell?. Would love to hear what you guys think as I recently heard your colleague say in the podcast that you should look at selling Japanese cars at the 300000KM mark. PS - I love my yaris and would not mind keeping the car as I really think it's an amazing little car that just keeps on going and has never ever let me down mechanically Kind Regards Charl from Kimberley
A:
My feeling is there is no reason to sell. Being Toyota it will not give you a problem. The vehicle is worth R50 000 and giving you R200 000 value. To replace it would cost over R250 000 and can not make sense in my opinion. -
Q: Good morning guys Really love watch your tiktoks On the we ask you answer. Need advice . Considering buying a weekend car. I am a bmw fan an like the 3 Series f30 Like a bmw 330d or something with a b58 engine. Or A wildcard buy is a new p series double cab 2.0 ls or p300. I have a company car for daily use so it's just for leisure use.
A:
Thank you for the kind words we really appreciate it. I am not a fan of any older, high km German car from Audi, BMW, Mercedes or VW. Depending on your budget I would always recommend if possible, a vehicle with factory Warranty. If you are looking at the P Series, strongly consider the Navara, just a all-round superior product. I am not anti-Chinese vehicles, just not pro them. Also stay away from the Ranger as they are problematic. Warm regards -
Q: Good day I'm in the market to buy a Tata Super Ace for business purpose, and I need advice on how reliable the vehicle is, as its going to be on the road most of the time seeing the price of the vehicle, would it be a good buy for long term Kind regards
A: No
Short answer is No long answer definitely no way I ever recommend a Tata Super Ace. It is a shocking vehicle with no parts back up and just all-round a cheap and nasty Indian Import. Please take my word it is Junk… -
Q: Hi Micheal and Nicky I am currently earning R18500 after deductions and on a market for a car (saving for a deposit currently) I am looking at either getting a demo or pre owned 2023 or 2025 Baleno GLX (I saw the one on 18000km), 2023 Fronx GL with 23000Km or starlet XS sitting on 12000km Please advise which will be the best one for a purchase taking in consideration of my salary as I’m planning to get the car on finance. Your advise would be appreciated Nice show gentlemen. Thanks a lot
A: No
Thank you so much for such a positive mail and the kind words. Nicky and myself really want the public to have a platform and people they can trust. My respectful suggestion is you are looking for a vehicle that is to expensive relative to your disposable income. I am not sure if you have kids and other commitments. Lets look at a car of around R280 000, your payments will be around R6000pm. Then insurance you can work on just on R1000pm Lets say you do 2000km a month your fuel bill will be R4000 That means you are spending R11 000 of your R18 500pm on your car alone and I believe that is "crazy"... It is for this reason that I see so many people run into financial difficulties and ruin their good credit records. Bear in mind you have not taken into account stuff like tyres, unforeseen repairs etc. I have always advised that I believe if you are earning less than R25 000 nett you have to hold off on buying a car. If you are looking at a vehicle please look at a Corolla Quest in the R140 000 range and payments of R3000pm. I hope this helps and wishing you the very best! -
Q: Good Morning I just came across you Tik-tok Video regarding the problems with FORD, this is my dad’s story and the endless problems he is having with his Mustang that he bought new….. My dad bought his car brand new, in September 2023 the car inexplicably went into limp mode, due to an over-heating issue ( had just over 20 000km on the clock) it was taken to the local ford agency in Ermelo, who could not seem to find the fault and then decided that the whole engine needs to be replaced (mind you the replacement had to be imported from America). The replacement was apparently fitted in December but till March it seemed to be having the same problem(despite the new engine). They then sent the vehicle to the Silver Lakes, Pretoria Agency at the request of Ford Head office. The mechanic at Silverlake’s apparently made a quick diagnosis that a particular sensor had been inserted incorrectly into the correct slot( know how sensors are and their design and pins I felt that it was unlikely). We collected the vehicle from them and everything seemed to be fine with the car. Not 6 months later and there seemed to be an oil leak, back to the closest dealership it went(Ermelo) they refused to work on it saying it needs to go back to Silverlake’s because they were the last to work on the vehicle. Silverlake’s said there was external damage to the oil filter housing( most likely a stone) and that we have to pay for the repair/replacement as external damage is not covered by the plan. ( they now had the car for over a month) again we got the vehicle back and again everything seemed fine. Then 2 months late as my Dad got into the vehicle all the warning lights came on, he immediately called a tow service to take the car to the next nearest dealership( he was done with Ermelo) which was Secunda, their story is that the car hasn’t had it yearly service and thus all the faults and thus the warranty has been cancelled.( when it was due for the service it was at the dealership for the repairs and also if they had changed the engine as they claimed was done then the car hasn’t done more then 10000km since the change) So this is where we are right now, my dad hasn’t had his vehicle in his possession for now in total a year. Ford is refusing to do anything on the car or take responsibility. Ps. The mechanic at the Secunda dealership has told my dad in confidence that with regards to the damaged oil filter housing it is very unlikely that it was damaged via a stone, as the position of it makes it improbable and it was probably damaged on fitment.
A: Yes
I am going to be very straight and to the point. Ford are 100% wrong in this case and this is typical Ford. The MD of Ford SA Neil Hill needs to be exposed by all Ford owners and that needs to happen now! -
Q: Good day, Michael Pashut and CHANGECAR Team. My name is Collin, am a husband and father of 4 Children, both my wife and I we are in our mid-40s. We would really like and appreciate if the team can give us some advices on the following questions outlined below. I own Kia Sorento (7 Seater) 2.2CRDI AWD 2013-2014 Model, with 298000km (300 000km) just to round it off. The car is well been taken care of, with full service history. It steal drives very well. The only problem is aircon pump, when is hot it doesn't blow cold air, which will later be attended to. And we also have 2016 Ford Ecosport 1.5 Ambiente with just 86000km brought brand new. The vehicle is been extremely well looked after with full service history. Lastly we have BMW 320i F30 2012 model with N20 Engen, manual transmission, At 248 000km and full service history. This vehicle will be sold This coming two weeks. The purpose is to buy one of the two. OPTIONS 1. Toyota Fortuner 3.0 D4D or 2.8GD6 preferably 4x4, 4x2 is also an option, since I we don't drive often on gravel road. The vehicle will be kept for 10 years. I will also be used on holidays 3 times a year for long distance. Will tow a small trailer. Which of the two is best buy. Budget R350 000.00 to R550 000.00. 2. Toyota Hilux 3.0 D4D Legend 45 or 2.8 GD6 preferably 4x4, 4x2 is also an option. This option is because we still have the Kia Sorento 2.2CRDI which is a 7 seater. Our first born is going to University next year 2026. Which one between is vehicles (Fortuner 3.0 D4D / 2.8 GD6 4x4 or Toyota Hilux Legend 45 3.0 Double Cap / 2.8 GD6 Legend 50/Raider) will be a good buy? Looking forward to your advices, Thanks Kinds Regards
A: Maybe
Thank you for the reach out it is so appreciated. The Fortuner is a superbbbbbb product whether old or new shape and that’s the positive reality. You indicated you will be keeping the vehicle for 10 Years and in that case look at the 2.8 New shape that falls within your budget. Personally I am not a Double Cab fan and hence why I unhesitatingly advise Fortuner. I hope this helps and happy vehicle hunting www.changecars.co.za works with superb quality Dealerships. -
Q: Hi Michael I am enjoying watching your show on social media. I have a 2019 Ford Ranger 2.2 six speed manual with 88 000km on clock which I have owned since new. Approximately 90% of the mileage has been used towing a full horse box of about 2 ton. I am concerned about the longevity of the Ranger and have decided to sell. My two preferred choices to tow the horse box is the Toyota Fortuner 2.4 diesel automatic or the 4.0 V6 petrol engine. My budget is R400k so will be looking at a model around 2017 -2018 with +- 100 000km on the clock. My primary objective is longevity (for at leas the next 10 years). What option would you recommend. Regards
A: Maybe
I am a huge fan of the Fortuner and i am not alone clearly :)... Personally i would go for the Petrol. Superb torque and driving characteristics. Consumption will be higher but the trade of is well worth it in my opinion. -
Q: Hi what is your opinion on Lexus Pricing? Quality ? And durability? In particular gx550 Compared to Toyota ? Please I don’t think you have covered Lexus
A: Yes
If you ask me my perfect car brand it is Lexus. Its like Germany and Japan had a child and it was Half German half Japanese. German quality and Toyota reliability and affordability. In real terms there is not a big difference between the Toyota badged and Lexus badged products. Some people feel you cant justify the extra price. Personally I feel you can as there is a noticeably more premium finish. The Lexus badge also carries weight and I would go for it. -
Q: Hi Guys We have 2 vehicles. Currently my 2010 Paj Sport is our family car but it has and super reliable. Its our family car. We need the 4x4 for camping and stuff. My wife drives a “unicorn”. 2009, Citi Golf Tenacity 1.4i. FSH, she was the first owner 130000km bought from VW. No mods of any kind. She needs something bit bigger with carseats and of course safer. We are thinking of selling her car privately and upgrading her to a compact/mid size that will then become the family car and we keep my Paj for the hobbies camping etc. Options so far is the Corolla Cross, Rav4 and wildcard a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Looking to spend R260K-R320K. If plans work out will be a cash buy. She drives very little basically work and back. Ideally we dont want to trade again soon if we do this. Thanks for the advice. Really enjoy the show. Cheers from the Garden Route. Rouen
A: Maybe
Without a shadow of doubt the Corolla Cross is my recommendation. The Eclipse is very good just slightly eclipsed by the Cross in this instance! -
Q: I am ready to upgrade my Audi A3 and looking for a bakkie. My budget is around R600 000. Should I get a GWM P series new or get a low mileage Ford Ranger. (Not keen on the hilux because of safety)
A: Maybe
I will not even consider the Ford under any circumstances. The P Series is a really nice and solid option. Why am I Anti Ford. Simply visit Hello Peter and see the reviews on FORD SA. -
Q: Hi hope your well, I’m currently driving a 2019 BMW x3 m40i . It has about 95000 kms on the clock and Motorplan expires in June. Thinking of more affordable options at the moment and I find the Chery Tiggo 8 pro max is an incredibly high value proposition. Do I look for a used car again , do I get a Tiggo 8 or maybe wait for the Jetour T2!
A: Maybe
I am not anti the Jetour or Tiggo, however they are not close to BMW. My advice is renew the Motorplan and carry on enjoying a premium brand! -
Q: Good day My wife drives a 2020 BMW 118i M-Sport currently with+- 73500 km. The M/Plan will expire soon and to renew for another 2 year extension it's going to cost about R42 000. There is an option to purchase a new 118 with BMW finance where the first year's insurance is included. The only issue I have is that it is structured a GFV deal. We've never bought a vehicle with a GFV, only with a small residual, which worked out fine for us. We are also at the age where we should think about retirement within the next 7-8 years. My wife feels that keeping her current vehicle might be too old, should she keep it until retirement, or changing it two years from now, might just be too close to retirement, because she doesn't want a vehicle payment at retirement age. I know this is a lot, but would appreciate your feedback. Kind regards Charlton Gelderbloem
A:
I would strongly advise you keep it and renew the Motorplan. It is a superb vehicle and with low kms still. GFV is a good option but not in your case. -
Q: Good day With the imposed tariffs on SA and the possible VAT increase, is it best to replace my current vehicle (2014, CX-5) with a newer (2023, CX-5). My vehicle is coming up for some general maintenance costs (+-R25K) and I’m in a position where I can replace it now instead of in a year or so, then rather put the maintenance money towards the new vehicle, your input would be appreciated. P.S On your show discussing Mazda parts availability, I recently experienced this with trying to source a new brake master cylinder. Absolutely non available from the spares shops and Mazda SA had 1 available in the country at a price of R5K. If that unit was sold, It was a 2-3month wait for a replacement from overseas. Unfortunately this is the risk with choosing Mazda, however their cars are just so good, that the risk currently is worth it. Thanks
A: Yes
I would unhesitatingly recommend a newer Mazda as a replacement. The parts availability is a big Faux Paux on the part Head Office and I have repeatedly said Craig Roberts the MD is not the right individual for the position. Wishing you lots of hassle free motoring! -
Q: Hi there team Change Cars I hope you are all well Am looking at buying a new car and my mind was set on polo vivo 1.4 2025 base model for something under R300k all in and then i came across the Citroen C3 max 1.2 automatic going for 250k brand new all inclusive of service plan 45 000km and 5 year warranty. With polo vivo service and warranty came in as VAPs and it took the vehicle price to around R270k My question is- Is Citroen a good buy and 3 years down the line will i still have a valuable car or the depreciation of these cars is massive? Please help! Best Regards Lawrence Mukosi
A: Yes
Nice to hear from you… I am a huge admirer of the Polo for so many reasons. Re the C3 I would buy with my eyes closed… Good looking, low risk and just a nice appealing package. If you send me your cell number I will forward you a clip of what I said about the Citroen C3 for our next episode of ALL THINGS MOTORING. Warm regards -
Q: I really enjoy watching your content. I currently drive a 2020 VW Golf 7.5 GTI. My mileage is 82000 and has full service history with VW. My maintenance plan expired in February this year and I took an extended service and warranty plan with liquid capital. So as it stands I am paying approximately R7300 instalment on my car and now an additional R1100 for the 2 year warranty and service plan. The golf really gives no issues but I am aware that as the car is aging I need to be prepared. In your opinion with the additional R1100 I’m paying is it not better to trade the car now for a new vehicle that has a maintenance plan included for at least 3 or 4 years. So in total excluding insurance I’m paying R8400 pm with this new extended warranty and service plan. I have been loyal to VW and have owned 6 different models over the years. Happy to hear your view on this. Perhaps it’s time to move to SUV or Bakkie as my family is growing.
A: Maybe
Thanks for the reach out and a pleasure to assist. You are in a superb win situation. My feeling is keep it as you have a car that will last and you know the car well. You simply will not come close to replacing the car at R8400pm over 60 months. R375 000 financed on a new vehicle will cost you R8400pm and as I said you have way better. With the Warranty and plan in place you have the right car that looks amazing and is still highly modern and relevant in my opinion. Hope this helps and we appreciate the support of our Podcast. -
Q: Hi Mike, I'm looking to buy a car, currently looking at a 2022 renault clio, has 84000 km on the clock, has only had 3 services, so it missed like 2 services..its had 2 owners, i like it, but im a bit worried, the other thing is, its being sold by a 5 star rate dealership on changecars..Price is R230000
A:
My advice is no. If its missed services, i do not like that. There are better options available. -
Q: Hi, I drive a vw polo 1.4 2006. The car is starting to get expensive to fix. Since December I have spent over 15K on repairs do you think it is time to sell the car and buy another? What would you recommend to replace it with in the used cars.
A:
I would suggest selling the car as the moment it starts costing money it is time to sell. My advice is look at another Polo or Swift with low mileage. Team ATM is here for YOU! -
Q: Hi. Im currently looking to buy a SUV. However there are too many varieties out there Which of these would be the best option Jetour Dashing Haval H6 MG HS Ford Territory Mazda CX5 GAC Emkoo JAECOO j7
A:
My personal suggestion is CX -5 and then the Haval H6… both proven and superb. Not a Ford Fan at all and for many reasons, I have invited MD of Ford SA to our Podcast.. MG and GAC possibly very good but I want more time to see the publics feedback. Jetour is very good and I like their management structure. -
Q: Good Morning I would like to ask for your honest opinion. I have a Nissan NP200 1.6 safety pack 2023 model which I use for business but for some reason I feel that the fuel consumption is not good and secondly I struggle to travel with my family on weekends as it’s only a 2 seater. I have been eyeing a Isuzu 1.9 Diesel which could cater for both business and personal needs but I’m sceptical about the consumption. Whats the fuel consumption comparison between the two?
A: Yes
We are big fans of the Isuzu 1.9 Diesel and absolutely advise it. The NP200 is a superb vehicle albeit with limitations. You will guaranteed get better consumption on the Isuzu and as per our discussion a good option for! -
Q: I own a Ford Everest XLT 2.2 2019 holiday car with 19500 km on the clock. The service contract has just come to an end and Iam just concerned about future costs .Do I change or do I keep ?The new Everest is out of my reach and I was looking at the Mahindra Scorpio 2x4.Do you think this will be a good move and would the Scopio be a good replacement .I love the drive height and authority of the Everest.Whats your best advice from the masters ..And what would you do? Thanks all ..Enjoy your podcasts and tic Tok
A: No
Easy answer.... Keep and not even a debate ! You have a 6 Year old SUV with the most incredible low mileage.. The vehicle is immeasurably superior to a Mahindra and if it was me i would plan my 2025 Holiday in my low mileage Everest. -
Q: I hope you are doing well! I'm in a bit of a predicament with one of my vehicles and would truly appreciate your advice. I have a 2012 BMW X5 M50d (198 000kms) that has been in my family since new, and it was my parents’ pride and joy. After my father passed away in 2021, I took over maintaining the car and invested in several big-ticket items, including: • Routine servicing, • Gearbox, transfer case, and front and rear differential services, and • Installing brand-new air bellows. • DPF Delete. Unfortunately, shortly after all this maintenance, I experienced an incident that has left the vehicle non-operational: • One morning, while overtaking, I suddenly lost all power and had to coast to the side of the road. There were no signs of smoke, oil leaks, unusual sounds, or any visible damage. • After some time, the car managed to start briefly, allowing me to put it into neutral, but I immediately switched it off to avoid further damage. • I had the car towed to a trusted mechanic (an ex-BMW Master Mechanic) who inspected it mechanically and found no obvious issues. The only error code he detected was related to the MAF sensor, but when he checked the sensor, it was still fine. • He suspected the issue might be software-related, especially since the DPF had been deleted by another workshop previously. The recommendation was to have them diagnose it. • When I went to collect the car from him, he reversed it out and drove it onto the tow truck himself. Again, there were no signs of smoke or any serious mechanical damage. I was elated at this point because I saw the car was driving fine. I towed the car to the workshop that performed the DPF delete (this was on a Friday). However, by the following Monday, they informed me that all three turbos were damaged and that bits of the impeller may have entered the engine, necessitating a complete overhaul. They quoted me R160k for the repair—far beyond what I could afford at the time. Suspecting foul play, I towed the car back to the first mechanic, who inspected it a week before. When I towed the car back to the first mechanic, he was shocked to see the damage, stating that the turbos were fine when he last inspected the car. It’s left me feeling uncertain about what may have happened during that short time at the other workshop, especially because I saw the car driving a few days before. I'm now stuck with a beautiful, well-maintained X5 M50d that needs a new engine—something that's proving to be both expensive and difficult to source. Being a petrolhead myself, my intention was always to keep the car running, especially since my mom was driving it. I need to help her get a new car, but I feel stuck. I believe selling the car as-is might be my only viable option. However, I’ve been struggling to find a buyer. Would you have any advice for me? Or perhaps, do you know of anyone who might be interested in purchasing the vehicle? So far, I’ve tried WeBuyCars, Weelee, Sell your damaged car, GoBid and have only received laughable quotes of around R40-R60k. I know from the retail value and insurance quotations that the car is atleast worth close to the R300k mark. Any guidance you can offer would be deeply appreciated. If you would like more info, please reach out for me and I can give you a call. Thank you so much for your time. Kind regards, Marvin

Was a pleasure speaking to you. I hope the information provided was useful. -
Q: I am a 31 years old lady based in PE, looking for a car. I need someone that is reliable and affordable. With a budget of R300 000 to R350 000. Deep down I want an automatic car but with the budget it will be better to make peace with manual ????????Also this car will have to drive to Limpopo some times.
A: Yes
My recommendation is a Mazda 2 1.5 Automatic. Mazda is a superb brand and a beautiful low risk vehicle for a young lady. -
Q: Hi Mikey, I'm looking at trading in my 2016 Kia Picanto 1.0 LS for a 2013 - 2016 Jaguar XF 2.2d. My Picanto currently has just crossed 139000km's, with fully updated service history and I bought it with about 133000km's last year in August. It's paid off as I didn't buy it through the bank, it's still in great condition, but reason for wanting to trade is because the power in the Picanto is just dreadful as I'm more used to diesel powered bakkies. I travel mostly on highway to work and back with about 92km per day for a work week.
A: Yes
I am a huge admirer of the Jaguar brand in general and the XF in particular. It is a solid modern and reliable vehicle. Well done and you wont be sorry with the Diesel. -
Q: Hi Michael. My budget is between 350k to 450k I’m looking for car to buy, I’m considering Lexus es 250 ex, Corolla XR sedan, Honda civic rs. May you advise which one is the right buy. Thank you in advance
A:
You have identified three excellent examples and you can truly buy all three with your eyes wide open :) Lexus Civic Corolla in order for me. -
Q: My father is looking to buy a used car with a budget of up to R300 000. He is used to driving german cars and would thus like something thats a bit luxurious and also has enough power, so nothing naturally aspirated. He does go on short trips now and again and would require something with enough space for 2 people for a weekend away. He is also not considering anything Chinese. Which car would you advise for him giving the criteria and budget?
A:
My strong suggestion is rather look at alternatives. I do believe you will get good value with Volvo... However my personal recommendation is a Toyota C-HR. I am a huge fan of Toyota and a huge fan of the C-HR. Its got everything your dad needs. Toyota reliability Turbo engine and it looks so appealing! -
Q: Client Message: Hi there I have 2019 GWM Steed 5e xscape bakkie D/C with 67000 well look after no accident or any other issue. My question is do i sell no before it loose to much or do I keep it till kingdom come Thank and also great show by the way ,well done Marius
A:
I would unhesitatingly advise you to keep it for as long as you like. I am a huge fan of the Steed. Rugged, cheap to maintain and reliable. You cant beat that mix. -
Q: Hi Michael, After listening to your YouTube programs you have opened my eyes on car brands. I plan to buy my last car as my two vehicles have high mileage (2012 Fiesta - 217,000 & 1996 Conquest - 223,000). I sold my Hilux 2700 to my son in law as it was too heavy on fuel, 6-7 km on a liter in town. You can guess that I am retired... The Chinese brands look very promising but I am concerned on long term support. I am considering the following cars but need your expert opinion on them: Haval Jolion Jetour Mahindra XUV700 Mahindra Scorpio N GWM P series double cab bakkie Isuzu double cab bakkie - 1.9 or 2.5 model Mahindra double cab bakkie The above-mentioned vehicles can either be new or used. Thank you for your valuable support. Regards and God bless
A: Maybe
Without a shadow of doubt the right vehicle of your choices is the Isuzu. Streets ahead of any Chinese or Indian new comer. If you do have an itch for a car and not a Double Cab then it is the Jetour. -
Q: I would just like some advice please. I have had a 2018 Toyota Corolla Quest 1.6 A/T since 2019. The mileage has just hit 180000km. It has been in a few accidents but was always repaired with RMI approved panelbeaters and serviced by franchise. I chose to finance it over a longer period of time so that I could manage the monthly installment. The balloon payment of R50k is coming up in September, so I wanted to know, should I pay it off and keep it, re-finance it or sell it? Any advice would be appreciated.
A: Maybe
Not a simple Yes or No :) You have good options both way. I am leaning to keeping it! -
Q: I have a Rav4 Hybrid which i bought brand new a year ago April 2024. First wheel rotation was done at 10 000km. i did not include the new spare wheel in the first wheel rotation. The mileage is now 20 000km and due for second wheel rotation. Do i include the new spare wheel in the wheel rotation and make one of the used tyre the spare or leave the new spare as is. The manufacture date of the spare wheel is November 2023 (4523).
A: No
I would strongly advise no. Tyre rotation is no longer the automatically done thing and very few people do indeed rotate. I personally would say, front to rear on same side only if you do choose to rotate. -
Q: I'm planning to buy a 2010 land rover discovery 4 from a friend. It has more than 400 000km. According to him, it only has two issues namely turbo actuator and central locking malfunctions. Would this be a wise decision?
A: No
I am not a Dr but I will safely prescribe you Panado 3x a day for many months. I love the Discovery 3 and 4, but not when they got high milage. It is an absolute no go. The “only problem” is already a huge problem. Stay far away and keep the friendship alive. -
Q: Hi Mike. I want to replace the Chery Tiggo 4 Elite SE, which was written off due to an accident. What are your thoughts on a low-mileage VW T-Cross or Suzuki Fronx? My husband wants the Proton X70 which I'm not sure about, and I find it too expensive.
A: Yes
I would not under any circumstances recommend a Proton absolute no go.! The Suzuki Fronx is superb, but a step down in terms of Premium feel compared to your Chery and so sorry for your loss. The VW T - Cross I would highly recommend and for so many reasons. -
Q: I have a paid up 2019 Renault Duster Prestige with an EDC auto gear box, with 50 000km. Only used for long road travel, never driven in day to day traffic. Should I sell now while it still has value - I'm concerned about EDC gearbox/turbo longevity? Thanks Frank Bloemfontein
A: No
There is no need for concern with such low milage. You have a lovely car and I would recommend keeping it. -
Q: Looking for a fun sporty replacement for my mito. Considering buying an BMW m240 instead of a Audi s3. My concern is that Bmw does not tend to be high milage heroes. Would it be sensible to buy a m240 with 100k km that fits into my budget. This will be my daily driver as well
A: No
I am very anti high mileage German cars, out of warranty. More so if it is a performance version. As per our chat I recommend a well looked after BMW 6 Series. A well looked after low mileage 2012 to 2024 model. Its the type of car that will have had a careful non abusive owner. The same cant be said for a M or RS vehicle. -
Q: I have Mazda 3 Astina 2.0 petrol.Bought it 2022.Service plan expired, left with 2 years warranty. I have done 150000 km .It's still under bank finance .No mechanical problems. Is it worth keeping with this mileage.
A: Yes
I would keep it if it is not giving you problems. The Mazda is a strong vehicle. If you are looking to replace, consider another Mazda, Honda, Nissan or Kia. -
Q: Hi there, I'm looking to buy a double cab for long term use. I wouldn't exceed 8000km a year. Budget is R600 000. I know the Hilux second hand is a good option. But it's so boring. The Triton is aldo a good choice. The Ranger 2l Biturbo I like. The new GWM P300 impress me with all the tech and features. I do not need 4x4. Is this a good choice for keeping it 10 years plus? So Ford or GWM or what?
A:
I am not a fan of the Ranger at all as I see non stop issues with Ford. The Hilus is absolutely superb in everyway and deserves its reputation. You have an excellent budget and will find the right vehicle. My personal preference to balance out and eliminate the theft risk is Isuzu DMAX, Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton. They look good, they Japanese, they up to date and you have all the right ingredients. I am not anti the P Series, but there is no logic in my view of putting it ahead of the 3x I have listed. I hope this helps and wishing you the very best. There are some lovely options from quality garages on www.changecars.co.za Warm regards -
Q: Hi Mike Owner of a 2017 Mazda 3 1.6 original sedan with 132000kms with full service history. How's the durability should I keep it or change it. Need a life time car
A: Yes
You have an exceptional car and I am a huge Mazda fan. My suggestion is keep it. We have no doubt the vehicle will continue to live up to expectations. -
Q: Hi Mike Looking to puchase a 320d/x3 2.0d or something similar. What will you suggest I look at? Budget R160-170k? Was driving a 2018 Audi A3 and car got written off. Note-son who is 19yrs old will also drive the car from time to time
A: No
I can not stress enough how Anti high Mileage luxury German Cars I am. I see it daily that you can not buy a high mileage BMW without issues. Please look at a Honda, Mazda, Kia or Hyundai. Your GP will not be prescribing Panado. -
Q: I struggling to decide which one to go for Between a new 2025 polo vivo trendline with the black roof and black mags, 3 years maintainance plan for R260k. Or a 2024 polo vivo comfortline with 21000kms going for R235k with no maintenance plan
A:
The easiest question of the day week and month... A Maintenance Plan is the peace of mind all customers need. Remember a Maintenance Plan is also a extension of the factory Guarantee. Congratulations on your brand new Polo Vivo with M Plan. -
Q: Hi Michael I'm looking at buying a Mazda CX 5 manual with a milage of 175 000 km on the clock selling at R140 000 and I'm considering buying it do you think it's a good idea ? I'm also a big fan of all things motoring and I wish you and the team great success
A:
I like the CX-5 very much and would highly recommend. What is critical always is to source it from a quality Dealership. -
Q: Hi I have a 2011 Focus 1.8 Si I love is very much but because it's a older car. Iam thing of getting something newer Like a 2017+ Polo TSI or Polo 1.6 sadan
A: Maybe
Hold onto a car that you like, fully paid up, low risk and not costing you money. Polo is great no question, but I strongly advise in your case to stop the itching!! -
Q: Between a Nissan np 200 and a Chevrolet utility which is a good buy?
A: Maybe
Both good choices and for different reasons. The Chev is ultimately the better vehicle, but challenges with parts. The Nissan NP 200 is easy to service but a higher theft risk... I would lean 51/49 in favour of the Nissan. -
Q: My wife was recently involved in a car accident and the car was written off. It was a 2015 Mazda CX-5 Active Auto that we bought new at the time. The insurance is paying out R193k. We are looking at purchasing a 2024 VW T-Cross 1.5 TSI R-Line DSG for R470k: https://www.autotrader.co.za/car-for-sale/volkswagen/t-cross/1.5tsi/27886085?vf=2&db=1&s360=0&so=1&pl=1&pr=2&po=1&pq=0 It would be the first VW that we purchase, we don't need as much space as the CX-5 had but would still like a higher clearance car with modern features. The car will be purchased cash. Would this be a wise purchase for a good deal? Or should we be exploring other options?
A:
The CX-5 is superb and I am so glad your wife was protected. The T Cross equally is a great vehicle and post our discussion we both agree its the right fit. Willem from MUJI VW will be assisting. -
Q: Hi Mikey Mikey i have a 2006 Toyota Runx and i want upgrade my headlights with modern headlights and i want to know if it is possible and what do you recommend. Regards Elroy
A:
I would strongly recommend you keep it original. By all means replace the globes but with factory standard globes. You have a future classic on your hands :) -
Q: Is my 2022 318i 30k km a good long term keep, or should i buy a new mazda cx5 carbon.
A:
Keep your magnificent low mileage BMW. Huge Mazda CX-5 Fan but you would be going backwards. You can extend the time on the BMW Motor Plan very cost effectively and based on the low annual mileage you do that is the right option. -
Q: Hi. I am interested in buying Peugeot 3008, used one 2022-2024 model. It will be my first time owning a Peugeot. What challenges should i be on the look out for, in terms of car reliability, spare parts availability and servicing? Thanks
A: No
I would strongly say NO in Capitals. Peugeot is imported into South Africa by Stellantis and Stellantis products deserve to fail. Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and Jeep. Parts back up is shocking and always an issue with reliability. These brands have never been trusted by mainstream buyers and they don't deserve to succeed. -
Q: Looking for used vehicle - Hyuandai Hi Crewbus
A: Yes
Very good bus and I highly recommend them. Excellent engine and good parts and Dealer back up in SA. -
Q: I'm looking for a comfortable, large SUV. Done with ladder frame SUV's. R500k budget. What would be more reliable? 2015 Disco 4 with 138,000km or 2018 D5 Volvo XC90 with 114,000km. Both have 1 year warrantee and FSH and both had belts replaced.
A: Maybe
I am a fan of both and with Good reason. Superb low theft risk and proper class vehicles. It is critical that you buy either vehicle from a Quality Dealership. I would value more info on the Warranty offered as often they are sadly worthless. -
Q: I drive a 2016 ford fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost, had it since 2018 without major issues, until October 2021 when the engine failed at 130 000km due to overheating (block had cracked) and it had to be replaced with a new one.. It is now 2025 and the vehicle is now close to 160 000 and I don't know if I should still keep it as the engine is fairly new or I should trade it in for a newer car. Vehicle is out of warranty, but have an aftermarket warranty policy on it. Please advise?
A: No
Hi Nicholas I tried calling but number is incorrect and not on whatsapp. My recommendation is sell it… The Eco Boost engine is a disaster and its nickname is ecoboom. Get We Buy Cars to give you a price and get rid of it asap. Warm regards -
Q: Hello Mikey I have 2019 Cayenne S with 40,000km, the Motorplan expires end of March 2025. I’ve received a quote from Porsche for R60,000.00 per year to extend for 1 or 2 years (R120k). Should I take this offer and extend from Porsche or would you recommend other options? I bought the car used directly from Porsche in March 2023 with 15,000km mileage. The cayenne is fitted with air suspension and rides on the 22in cayenne turbo wheels.
A: Maybe
A unhesitating YE S that you go with a Porsche approved. The best deserves the best and i am a huge Porsche SA admirer for so many reasons. -
Q: What are thoughts on new Opel Grandland special @ R400 k Vs Tiggo 7 Distinction?
A: Maybe
Two nice choices at face value. I am however very anti any Stellantis product as their service and back up is shocking. The Tiggo 7 it is and you will be very happy :) -
Q: Please advise if it will be a wise purchase by buying a New shape toyota Fortuner 2.4 - 4x4 on the current special offers i.e. 48months +-R9000 monthly installment. Will be a retirement vehicle, use for towing a caravan, etc.
A: Yes
I am a huge fan of the incredible Toyota product and my answer is a resounding YES! -
Q: Hi Mikey. Firstly, I love the brand and the work you And your team are doing! Keep it up! I drive an automatic 2018 2.2 Ford Ranger Xlt Dc with 120 000km on the clock, full Ford service history (and required maintenance also performed at Ford). Engine, gearbox, diff, turbo still unopened and untouched. Our lifestyle requires a bakkie (I know you are not fan), and my question is if from a reliability point of view it makes sense to keep it!
A: Yes
I would strong;y advise you to keep it. After speaking to you even more so. Well looked after, fully paid up and not costing you money. You will go backwards by selling it in my opinion. -
Q: Would You recommend fitting a Bullbar/Nudgebar to a vehicle with Airbags. I have heard conflicting opinions. Mike strikes me as very knowledgeable!
A: No
My personal belief is a strong no. Certain OEM fitted Bullbars like on a Discovery 3 or 4 have built in PDC Sensors and no issue. The traditional Tubular Bull Bar will and take it as confirmed, will affect the Airbag operation. I appreciate the kind words! -
Q: I have a 2014 BMW 420i M.Sport coupe, automatic with paddle shift with R155000 worth of BMW extras on. It is white in colour with black leather seats with full BMW service history and only 95000 kilometers on the clock in immaculate condition. What would be the selling price for this vehicle? To replace this vehicle now with its specifications added would cost over R1 Mil.I need to know its current value to determine whether I should keep the vehicle or not.
A: Yes
You have given me the easiest question of the year... Keep Keep and Keep again. Superb milage superb car and just no logical reason to sell. You will get R300 000 for it and it is a R700 000 value car. Congratulations! -
Q: I have a golf 7 2018 1.0 comfortline with 84000km full service, how much longer can I keep the car and what are the most common issues should I keep the car to be on the look out for.Thank you kindly
A: Yes
You have a magnificent low milage for the year car. After chatting I would highly recommend you keep it. -
Q: Good evening. I trust you’re well. I recently purchased a 2020 Ford Ranger 2.0 SiT double cab at 165k mileage. The vehicle has a full service history and was purchased at a Ford dealership. I was offered a 2 year warranty in the deal. I would like to know is the vehicle a good buy or did I make a mistake? Honesty of the model would be highly appreciated.
A: Maybe
As discussed over the phone I would not have bought it. However you do not need to be concerned, you bought it from a quality Ford Dealership and you have a good warranty in place. Happy motoring and sleep easy! -
Q: Good day. I have a 2018 Renault Clio that I paid off, should I keep it or change it? Need something bigger (Family car)
A:
The fact that the car is fully paid up, not giving you trouble and is also a low theft risk... My advice is keep it and do not sell. Getting into debt when its not the best option does not make sense. -
Q: I have scrolled through your car listings and came across dealerships that have been recently disciplined with fines and orders to repay customers. They misrepresented and sold vehicles that were defective and deficient. How can I use your website with confidence that I will not end up being another sucker?
A:
test saving test -
Q: Good day I'm seeking advice I'm currently driving a 2014 Polo GTI with only 69000kmz with full service history and never gave me any issues. I'm engaged and will be married soon so I'm undecided on keeping my vehicle or selling to upgrade and get something bigger. Please do note that I've always had performance cars that's fun to drive so if I do look at a bigger vehicle I'd like to have a car that is fun to drive. I'm open to your suggestions and options to look at if I do decide on upgrading. My budget is R500000.
A: No
Hi Sayeed... I would recommend you keep it... Car is superb and you have had it since new. Mileage is low and its paid off... You "can't move forward" without losing money. -
Q: I have a 2016 Golf 7 1.4 TSI DSG. Bought the car from VW Queenstown, EC, in 2021 for my Wife. It had about 40k on the odometer, and the car was in a good condition. The car now has about 87k on the odometer and we have relocated to the WC. We drive longer distances now and I don't want to build up to many km before we trade the car in. The car is however, in good condition and my concern is that I will not find something in my budget to match the Golf... Do I keep it or CHANGECARS.
A: Yes
My opinion is keep it as it is a good looking comfortable, safe and reliable. After speaking to you even more so. Value for money relative to your installment you have a win. -
Q: I own a 2013 Audi Q5, 2.0TDI, car is clean, serviced and maintained by Audi, and drives like a dream. Even though mileage is 215 000 km. Cambelt has been changed, and S-tronic gearbox continuously serviced. Ive been offered R130 000 for the car, do I take the money and run to a dealership for a new car, or drive this car till it goes past 300 000km. My budget is limited, so I would only afford R350 000 for a used car, looking at X-trail, Forester
A: No
You have a car I would highly recommend you keep. Having spoken to you even more so. It is well looked after, impeccably maintained and a gem. The other options are good products but adding R220 000 you are actually going backwards not forwards. -
Q: I recently bought a 2021 mazda 3 but I am concerned with the recent closures of dealerships that my dealer could be next and it could affect resale value. Is this a concern to start looking at selling the car or is there no reason to worry?
A: No
I would strongly recommend keeping it and I believe resale values on 2nd hand Mazda's will remain strong. Solid product and the indications are the MD of Mazda SA will be replaced with a powerful leader. -
Q: Good day Mike, I need your advice. I want to buy a 2021 VW T-Roc 2.0 R-Line 4Motion with 90000km full FSH. However, I am extremely worried about the DSG box, heard that the mechatronics on it go bad all the time. What is your opinion on? If not, which crossover/SUV would you suggest on a 400k budget? Something that has decent power not sluggish, not chinese, about 7-8l/100km fuel consumption(I am an average driver, occasionally like to go fast.)
A: Yes
I personally have zero against DSG and i can not fathom where the perception comes that they are problematic :))) Reality is the VW Group would not be persisting with the incredible box if it was an issue. Congratulations on your impending purchase. -
Q: I would really appreciate some advice on vehicle vs towing capacity more importantly launching boats at slipways like Sundaysriver, Colchester, Eastern Cape. Some history I have owned the 1999 Audi, the 2005 Ford Ranger and even the 2019 Toyota Fortuner, but don't need a big vehicle anymore. I want to buy as small as possible, but do have 1 requirement and that is that the vehicle must be able to launch my boat (a 4.1m G4 Sport cathedral haul with 40HP motor) at slipways across the country and that is what I am struggling with. I am currently considering purchasing a 1.5 diesel engine vehicle perhaps something like the Mahindra xuv300 W8 or even considering the Chery brand but are not getting the right advice as I assume most don't know. Safety and fuel consumption is very important to me as a lady and I hardly drive around these days. +-100km a week so it is pointless for me to purchase the big vehicles I previously owned. If you can give advice I would be greatful. What would be the smallest engine size I should be looking at for peace of mind and is there some specific vehicles I should specifically look at for my specific requirement. New or 2nd hand I want to spend between 200k-400k if possible. I love Lexus, Toyota but honestly worried about it being stolen unless I am just uneducated at present and that concern should just be on specific models like the Hilux and Fortuner.
A:
I am 100% saying no to any Chinese Vehicle, The Mahindra is definitely an option. You have a very good budget and can be picky. Nissan Qashqai Diesel, Honda CRV Diesel or Hyundai Santa Fe... Diesel is critical in your application. -
Q: Hi Mike. I am 61 yrs old , retiring at the end of the year. I own a 2022 Nissan Xtrail from new with 65000km mileage. Service plan ends this year. R220k settlement with R400k saved. I Plan to travel less than15000 kms p.a. I prefer a AWD for the roads I drive on. Should I keep the Nissan or trade in for a Suzuki Grand Vitara hybrid. I value your advice on any other option,
A: Yes
In my opinion the Grand Vitara is a superb vehicle and a step forward. I am also a big X Trail fan, just a little heavy on Fuel. You are in a win win situation whatever you choose to do. -
Q: Hi. I’d value your advice. I’m 57 and drive a 2020 Fortuner 2.8 GD6 VX from new and with 50000km. If I do get to 63 and go on pension, I would most likely not be able to afford another new car then. My question is what would be a great long-term vehicle for me that would be reliable and cheap to maintain. I was thinking of making a big leap to bay a Prado, Lexus or get a newer Fortuner in a year. Please help with advice. I don’t do great outdoors
A: No
You have a vehicle in my opinion that truly fits the need already and will out live me and I am 51 Years old! It is good looking comfortable and just a legend of a vehicle in every sense. If the itch persists a Lexus is the option I would go for! -
Q: Hi Mikey i like Ford Tourneo custom 2.2 Lwb 7/8 seater 2013/14 model . Is it a good reliable family mpv or do you have a better advice
A: Maybe
My experience with the Tourneo has been mixed. If low km (Under 120 000) you can consider if coming from a good seller. In addition an aftermarket Warranty is a must. Our unhesitating recommendation is the AA Product. -
Q: Hello, would purchasing a phased out or replaced vehicle be a wise choice? Eg. Ford Ecosport or the Honda WRV. Worried about maintenance and availability & price of parts for these vehicles or my other choice is a Nissan Magnite. Is this a good long-term vehicle or should I just stick to Toyota or VW. Thank you
A: Maybe
Hanna in my opinion, please don't consider the Ford EcoBoost, The Honda with your eyes closed and any Toyota the same. Nissan Magnite is not in the same league quality and feel as the Honda and Toyota. The VW very good option, but the Honda and Toyota safer and better. -
Q: Hi Mikey. I'm based in Gauteng, Johannesburg and I have 2011 Honda Accord 2.4 Automatic Executive which is out of warranty and service plan. Bought the vehicle December 2022 with 165 205km on the clock (vehicle serviced by previous owner when it reach 165 000km). Car is currently at 178 300km and due for service when it reaches 180 000km. Done two service quotes with two different Honda OEM's quotes are between R10500 and R11500 including parts and labour as well as changing transmission oil as I'm not certain if previously was this done.`I need some honest and valuable advice of how I can get the vehicle serviced, should it be via Honda or rather a reputable rim approved agent? If any which rim approved agent can you recommend for me that are experts at servicing a Honda? All my previous vehicles (not Honda in this case) have been serviced via OEM's but I find OEM service pricing are just not justifiable. Another question, should I buy my owns parts via OEM but have car serviced at an rim approved agent or would it be cost effective to rather get the rim agent to charge parts and labour inclusive to do the service?
A:
What a nice question about a car i rate so highly. Honda Accord.. Good looking and just allround a great product. A quality RMI approved workshop is my recommendation. Adam Ford the respected presenter of Buyers Guide on DSTV Channel 189 is the right man to look after it. You will receive a whatsapp with his number. -
Q: have a bmw 320i, 2016 ( 2016 32i M SPORT A/T (F30). Registered on 01/01/17. It now at 175000km paid, now it costing on average 18k-20k on maintenance excluding service intervals. Mostly coolant issues, ideal think I've changed the coolant issue 3times. As we speak 2 weeks ago I paid 15k for fan belt that broke off , then took the car only to be meet with no coolant ( coolant fine but the water part was empty they sayingvit gonna cost me 26k.
A: Yes
Sell it and do not even consider keeping it.High mileage BMW's are an absolute disaster. I would honestly recommend a Lexus -
Q: Hi. Do you regard Weelee as a 5 star dealership. I know you have in the past rated webuycars poorly, but I seem to think weelee is similar. I want to buy a car from them but am concerned they are another version of webuycars.
A:
In terms of vehicles offered Weelee are streets ahead of We Buy Cars and they will not buy anything. Weelee are more than a valued advertiser on the CHANGECARS site. Weelee service is good but i have raised concerns with the MD that it can be polished. If you are interested in a specific vehicle on our site, reach out to us and i will personally be involved. -
Q: Have a Nissan Navara 2018 model. Trade in is R460 000. But dealers are offering R200 000. What should I do and should I accept it!
A: Maybe
The Trade in book value is not R460 000 it is closer to R290 000. Without km's and knowing the condition it is hard to say a value. Two companies we strongly recommend are Weelee and We Buy Cars! -
Q: Hi. I currently own a Focus 1.0 Ecoboost and want to sell the car due to various reasons. The car drives well but we all know about the Wet Belt! Im looking to buy a mid size SUV from 2018 upwards. Is the Duster 1.5 cdi a good purchase?
A:
Depending on the mileage i would most definitely consider selling the Ford. I am not a fan of the product. Regarding the Duster equally not a huge admirer of Renault in SA. The Duster Diesel though is the stand out vehicle in the range and I am happy to say a good buy. Mileage is key and look for a low mileage under 60 000km ideally and from a highly reputable Dealership. -
Q: Hi team! I am seeing the AA advertising their products a lot on the Internet. Are they still as good as the AA of old!
A:
Let me say I am a huge fan of the AA and for many reasons. There is simply no more trusted, established and reputable brand than the AA. Would i recommend them, every day of the week! -
Q: Hi Im in the market for an Suv. Currently i have an Legend 50 Toyota hilux double cab low very low millage arround 42 000km fsh with Toyota all the trimmings like windshields, bonnet cover steel canopy. Reason for Suv is safety reasons we all know that Toyota you cant be in JHb with it so im looking for Suv with all the comfort. So i want to know Chery pro7/8 will i get good resell value in 5 to 7 years? And is it worth it to buy it?
A: No
We are starting to hear more and more complaints about Chery and i am becoming hesitant to recommend. Looks good and has a premium feel. Is heavy on fuel and prone to rust for some reason. I hear you re the Hilux and your concerns are valid. Right option so as not to feel you are going backwards is the New Triton. 10/10 in every way. -
Q: Hi, I'm indecisive between buying the Hyundai Creta 1.6 executive 2018 model with 100 000km, which is more economical or if it's worth spending extra R100 000 to get a Toyota Cross 1.8 XI 2023 model with 25 000km. What do you think, is it worth the extra R100 000 to buy the Toyota Cross.
A: Yes
I would without hesitation go for the Toyota and for the extra R100 000 which works out to around R2400pm on finance. All round in my opinion a better car and more appealing. Without contradicting myself the Hyundai in its own right is a very good car, simply not as nice as the Toyota. Hope this helps! -
Q: Hi Mikey. I'm plannimg to buy Hyundai Tucson Automatic second hand. I would like you to advice me on that. Thank you
A: Yes
Tucson very good and I like very much. Always key is the mileage and where you buy it from. Under 140 000km ideally and from a quality dealership. www.cars.co.za www.autotrader.co.za and our site CHANGECARS on www.changecars.co.za Pleasure to assist and if you need anything else I am on 083 377 5432 Warm regards Mike -
Q: Looking to buy a sporty replacement for my 2012 Alfa Romeo Mito QV, preferably German with a budget of R450 000... Do you like BMW as an option!
A: Yes
I would look at a Z4 or Audi TT... Appealing and super good looking and both with very appealing engines :)... Good luck and exciting times ahead -
Q: I own a 2016 F25 BMW X3 3.0 Diesel M Sport. I purchased the vehicle in 2017 as demo with 24000 km on the clock. The vehicle recently passed 150 000 km and is running just as smoothly as when I first drove it. Despite the age and milage, it is always a joy to drive and brings a smile to my face. The torque and power are especially impressive and there is not a squeak or a rattle. The only major expenses to date have been the run flat tyres and rear brake discs that need to be replaced. I still service the vehicle at BMW and it is well looked after and in very good condition. My wife uses the vehicle daily to work and back (approximately 20 km/day) and we use it on occasional long family trips. I am uncertain on what problems to expect in the next few months. I am concerned these could be expensive. Will it be wise to still keep the car for another two years or should I be looking for a replacement. I would love to upgrade to a later model X3 with the same engine, but the prices on second hand G01 X3's are out of budget reach for me at the moment. Would appreciate your views on my dilemma.
A: Yes
I would highly recommend you keep it. You have looked after it well and a car does not go from Hero to Zero overnight. To replace it with a like for like you are in for R800 000. Wishing you and your beautiful Beemer many more happy miles. -
Q: Good day. I’m a 36 year old guy driving a Mazda CX3 auto Individual 2019. I got the car second hand 2years ago and I have not experienced any issues. The extended warranty on the car is about to expire in Feb 2025 and I’m sitting on 96000km on the clock. What would you advise? Extend the warranty or look for another new car that I won’t have to stress about service plan and warranty? If i trade it in. Which brand would you recommend? Thanks
A: Yes
You have an excellent car in the CX3 and i would highly recommend you hold onto it. Extending the Warranty makes a lot of sense and gives you that absolute peace of mind. -
Q: I’m a 38 year old driving an 2016 Opel Astra 1.0T. Looking to sell it, I’m happy with getting a compact SUV and preferably diesel. I’ve been looking at the 2016-2017 BMW X1 diesel with 100,000 km on the clock? Would it be a good buy? Looking at a monthly instalment of between R6500-R7000
A: No
I am on record as saying stay away from highish to high mileage German cars. Not a week goes by that I do not see just what problems they present. As indicated in our chat the Nissan Qashqai Diesel is the right fit for you. -
Q: Do you have finance for low credit score people??
A: No
It is completely illegal, against the credit act and immoral to offer any form of credit to any financially distressed individual. It is my personal bugbear that products like "Rent to Own" are around. CHANGECARS/ALL THINGS MOTORING will never be associated with this nonsense. -
Q: Hi Mike, I have an Audi A3 2016 TDI 2.0 2016, 150 000km. I don’t have any problems with the car at the moment, it drives amazingly. I have replaced a sensor. I do quite a bit of driving the fuel Efficiency is very low. Do you think I should sell? What milage could I have big problems with the Audi?
A: No
Based on our chat, I strongly recommend keeping it. The vehicle is giving no trouble, is superbly maintained and still looks like a R600 000 plus car. You simply can not replace it :) -
Q: Hi.. Have been trying to buy a new Prado vx for the last 4 months. Dealers dont return calls or say they cant assist. Others say they will get back to me and never do. Was put on a wait list by Toyota NMI group Centurion in August and told it might take 3 months, they now know nothing about that. I understand there is a wait list, seemingly stock is an issue. Can you perhaps shed lite on the shortage of stock on the new prado and can you perhaps advise on someone a person @ a dealer that can properly assist me. Thank you in advance. TJ from Pretoria.
A:
We will be able to assist as we work with the best Toyota Dealerships in the country. -
Q: Hi mike would like to know if the MG HS 1.5T is a better car than the GR sport cross 2024 or i should wait for the face lift cross that coming out in 2025 Thanks
A: Maybe
MG is going to be a success in South Africa and that I will put my money on. They have the right Dealer Groups believing in them and they have a solid product. Would I buy it over a Toyota... Not yet, but lets re look it one year from now! -
Q: Hi. Im currently driving a VW polo vivo 2016 blueline, i bought the car brand new in 2016 and i must say it hasnt given me any problems to date. But i wanted to buy myself a second hand 2017 - 2019 Mercedes-Benz but after i saw the episode when you were talking about high milage cars and full service history i saw that its a risk and i might end up with having problems. Now my question is ive been looking at the Chery 7, Haval Jolion and lately i am hearing they heavy on Fuel.
A: No
No high mileage German car can ever be considered. Chines Cars are heavy on Fuel and that is the reality. Mazda CX3 and CX5 is a good option just bear in Mind Mazda are possibly going to exit SA. Corolla Cross is my unhesitating choice. -
Q: Hi Mike, we hope you can assist. We have a budget of R350 000 and can stretch it further. Looking at a nice used Qashqai and saw one at We Buy Cars. Was shocked at the lack of preparation of their vehicles. My question is two fold. Is the Nissan a good choice and would you recommend We Buy Cars!
A: Yes
The Nissan is an excellent car and I am so sad at the demise of the Qashqai in South Africa. Regarding We Buy Cars, I would not want to come across as having a negative opinion of the brand, as we play in the same space. What i will say is buying from them comes with risks and why take a risk when there are better and safer options. CHANGECARS will not under any circumstances allow We Buy Cars to advertise on our site! -
Q: Love you on Buyers Guide and trust your opinions and my wife thinks you are very handsome! We are looking for a small SUV and the question is do you think a Corolla Cross is better than a GWM!
A: Yes
Tell your wife Mikey says a humble thank you. Short answer re the Toyota v GWM Yes! Long answer YES YES and YES again. Not against the GWM Product but it is not a patch on Toyota. Dealer network, long term reliability, future resale value and quality. -
Q: Hi Mikey.... I am selling my moms 1997 Corolla with only 51 000km on it. Is it best to sell it privately or to a Business like We Buy Cars!
A: Maybe
Consider it sold! I would love to buy your car and will guarantee you to better any offer you get. Ask We Buy Cars to come and assess the grand old lady and we will better the offer! -
Q: Hi Mike, thanks for this service. I have just bought a 2019 BMW 420i with only 33 000km. Car has been garaged its whole life and driven like it has a 1200 engine. It still has the original tyres and they look new. Do I need to replace due to age or can I drive until the tread is finished.
A: No
You can safely drive the car for many more years and I will argue with anyone who sees it differently. Tyres age due to being in the Sun and constant changes in temperature. As an example a car that "lives" outside and has cold mornings and evenings and sweltering days will have a shorter tyre life. If you look at the tyres and see no visible signs of cracking on the sidewalls or in the tread pattern, then wave every time you pass a Tiger Wheel and Tyre ) -
Q: Hi Mikey, I need your expert opinion. Is a 4 Speed Gearbox enough Gears for a modern Automatic? I am looking at a Suzuki Fronx.
A: Yes
Horses for courses and in this case yes it is adequate. Ideally more gears would be welcome for "Longer legs" but in the Fronx the Four on the Floor so to speak is great. I am a huge admirer of Suzuki and we get zero complaints about them!. -
Q: Do you rate the new Isuzu Double Cabs for serious off roading!
A: Maybe
All Double Cabs have limitations when it comes to 4x4 on a grand scale. However is the Isuzu a match for its competitors. YES in every way and i am a huge fan! -
Q: I am seeing lots of concerns regarding Mazda. I watched your Podcast and also saw George Mienie from Autotrader comment on Mazda's future. Would you recommend a new Mazda.
A: No
Mazda is a solid appealing product and i rate the vehicle highly. In SA i would say don't do it as Mazda is possibly on the brink of exiting the country. They are closing Dealerships on a regular basis. The big Dealer Groups are seeing the writing on the wall. They have an MD who refuses to listen and is solely responsible for their decline. I am very open in my sheer dismay at Craig Roberts and his inept team. -
Q: Hi Mike Would you recommend financing a new vehicle over 84 months. Love your Podcast. Refilwe from Soweto
A: Maybe
HI Refilwe...It all depends on what brand you are buying. A Toyota, Honda, Hyundai i say maybe. Luxury cars and French cars, no. I will personally call to discuss in detail.Mike -
Q: Good sir, I’m a 19 year old entrepreneur turning 20 next year, I just recently proposed and my fiancée and I have 1 beautiful daughter. I’m looking into buying a vehicle that suits my age yet will be convenient for my new family. Is a second hand BMW 3 series 320i GT M Sport a good buy? My first car was a 2010 Mercedes-Benz C Class Sedan C180k BE Avantgarde Auto which I bought this year but I had to sell it for personal&professional reasons.
A: No
My personal opinion is rather don't. You can be very proud of your achievements and a you don't need risk. A Mazda CX3/CX30 is my strong recommendation. -
Q: Is the 2015 Chevrolet Captiva – 2.4 LT Auto a good car for R175,000 with 116000 km's?
A: No
Nice car, nice price and nice Kilo's for the year. The issue is parts and future resale value. I rather say look at Ford, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan etc. -
Q: 1996 2.8l 4x4 hips double cab Raider, with long range diesel tanks and a warn winch. 320 000km What is the value, is it worth R130 000
A: No
Hi Andy.. In my opinion the right price is R100 000. However if you like it and its a must have R130 000 will not break the bank... Good luck with : -
Q: Hi there, I’m currently looking at selling my 2014 fiesta ST, and looking to get a 2012 audi RS3… I went to drive the car and it felt amazing and looks in amazing condition… I would like some advice to ensure I’m purchasing a good car and in good condition… Is there anything I should do, I’m looking to have it inspected by Dekra but should I take it a step further ? Regards
A: Yes
I would buy it 7 Days a week as a car. Key is to buy it from the "Right" place and in this case must be an Audi Centre with at least 3 Years Freeway Plan in Place. I am a huge Audi fan for all the right reasons. The car looks good "goes ok:)))) and is just all-round an awesome package. -
Q: Hi Mikey, is buying a used fortuner gd6 with 150 000km and a full franchise service history advisable?
A: Yes
Patrick a Toyota is the only vehicle I would with very few exceptions recommend, even if with highish mileage. Warm regards Mike -
Q: Good day Micky. I'm currently driving a Toyota Corolla 1.8 Exclusive 2017 model. Its CVT. Had no issues for 7 years of driving. I would like to upgrade to Baic Beijing X55 Premium. Would you recommend this change. I'm a bit sceptical.
A: No
Hi Hubert I so appreciate the reach out and an absolute pleasure to assist. I always make the joke… Short answer or long answer ???? While I am not remotely Anti BAIC or any Chinese importer, the fact that you are going from a Toyota to anything else you are going “backwards” I am very open publicly and privately re my admiration and respect for Toyota. I will go further and say I am not unique in this regard. There are so many variables beyond the obvious. The Toyota Dealer Network exceeds 200 in SA and across all 9 Provinces. Therefore every aspect of ownership is easy from accessibility, parts availability and parts back up. Warm regards Mike -
Q: I currently drive a 2020 Tiguan 2.0TDi R-line as my daily and plan to keep it, I am looking at acquiring a BMW E92/93 M3 as a toy that I have always wanted, I believe those may not qualify for traditional bank finance. Are there other options other than traditional bank finance and cash?
A: No
Hi Bongani Thank you for reaching out, we really do appreciate it. I must tell you, your choice of Toy excites me (and others for sure) Regarding the amazinggggggggggggggg 2007 M3 you will unfortunately need to buy it Cash, as you rightly pointed out due to age banks wont finance it. I beg you NOT to consider rent to own type options as they are bad and take advantage of the client. Happy Motoring!!!!! -
Q: Hi Mikey, looking at buying a 2008 Volkswagen Caravelle T5 2.5 TDI (128kW) tiptronic- mileage high 333 400 km but has full service history from agents. worth considering?
A: No
Short answer NO and long answer No under any circumstances. With that mileage you will have challenge after challenge!. Previous owner is selling for that very reason I bet you! -
Q: Is a 2019 Hyundai Creta a good car to buy
A: Yes
Good evening Vinesh Lovely to meet you and glad to try and assist. I personally am a huge fan of the Creta in everyway and for so many reasons. I like the looks, I like the height and I respect Hyundai the brand. You don’t mention kms and whether Petrol or Diesel…. Both are good. The key always is where you are buying it from and as long as it’s a good garage and all checks out, it’s a definitive yes. Warm regards -
Q: Would you recommend the brand Foton
A: No
I am not a fan and for many reasons. It is untried and I don't recommend anyone to be the Guinea Pig. Then the brand is not backed by an OEM but rather a motor Group CMH. For me this is a concern as the Group has not got a customer service ethos. This is backed up by their poor HelloPeter and Google Reviews. -
Q: Is A GWM Steed 5 single cab or double cab good bakkies
A: Yes
I would Highly recommend the vehicle as a vehicle choice. Excellent brand in every way. -
Q: Is the 3.2 Duratorq Ford motor reliable?
A: No
Good evening Eswatini Nkosinathi so nice to receive another question from across our border. Let me be very open I am not a Ford engine fan and with good reason. If we deal with any engine related queries, challenges or concerns the vehicle has a Ford Badge. If well maintained and properly serviced you should be fine, however I say again I am not a fan. Overheating, oil pump issues and blow by are regular and I don’t like that. I hope this helps and wishing you the very best. Mike -
Q: Is the Ford ecosport 1.5 ambiente TiVCT a reliable car?
A: No
Short answer is NO and long answer is Ford Engines are giving a lot of challenges and stay away from them. -
Q: Should I purchase a 2015 X5 with 120000 kilometers
A: No
Good evening Lebeko Nice to meet you and thank you for the mail. My personal feeling is no and for many reasons. The vehicle is super expensive to maintain to the levels needed. That car was out of Motorplan 4 Years ago already and I will guarantee you as of 2020 only the necessities were done. You will be buying a headache and Grandpa and Panado together wont be enough. Warm regards -
Q: Hi Mikey, Is Toyota Quantum 16 seater better that Nissan NV350 16 seater in terms of performance, longivity and reliability ? Thank you
A: Yes
Good afternoon Kwena Thank you for the enquiry and it is my pleasure to assist. There is not a shadow of doubt the Toyota is vastly superior in every single way. I specialize in the sale of these to Schools and there is not a School that does not prefer the Toyota. They are simply better made, more stable and longer lasting. If you can go for the Diesel I strongly advise you do as it is far more Fuel efficient in every way. Mike -
Q: I wish to purchase a vehicle to replace my RAV4 which was a write-off due to an accident. Do you think that CHERY Tiggo 4 CVT will be a good choice or is a Toyota Crossover a better option.
A: Yes
Sorry for your loss, I am a huge fan of the Chery Tiggo 4 in every way and openly so. However there is not a shadow of doubt the Toyota is a superior product! Chinese products world wide are of an exceptional level but Toyota is and will remain on a higher level. -
Q: Is KIA Grand Sedona 2.2 CRDI a reliable car and cheap to maintain like Toyota Fortuner?
A: Yes
-
Q: My 2017 Audi A3 1.0 Steptronic has about 103000km on the clock and is out of plan now. Is it a good idea to purchase something newer with full warranty / service plan? I heard the Steptronic gearbox can become problematic at this age / mileage.

Q: Morning sir I intend buying a new car. I have a family member @ Toyota where I can get dealer pricing except on Hybrid vehicles. My heart tells me to buy Hybrid however the discount is an incentive. In my situation would you recommend hybrid for the long term value? Regards
A: No
Go with the best discount you can get. Petrol has been around since just after Jesus and Moses played Golf :) and with good reason! -
Q: Hi Mike is it worth purchasing a GWM P SERIES or should I go for a lesser spec known brand?
A: Yes
-
Q: Can i get a car with low credit score
A: No
Through traditional finance most definitely not! Word of advice, do not go for the Rent to own options! -
Q: I am buying a MotorBike for R45 000 off the ChangeCars website. Would you recommend I take vehicle insurance.
A: Yes
Insurance is absolutely critical for many reasons. Your financial protection in terms of a total loss through theft, write-off etc. In addition it protects you from a claim should you be at fault in an accident. -
Q: Can my 11 Year old safely sit in front of a car with an Airbag. I must add we keep the seat right back and my son is really tall for his age. 1.62m
A: Yes

Q: Can one safely fit a Turbo Charger to an engine that was not "designed" for one.
A: No
-
Q: I hate stop start feature on modern cars. In your opinion does it cause unnecessary wear and tear on the components.
A: Yes

Q: In your opinion is it safe to buy a car on FaceBook Market place.
A: No
-
Q: I want something different. Renault or Peugeot. My feeling is Renault am I correct?
A: Yes
-
Q: Is a Kia Picanto better than a Suzuki Swift?
A: No
Hi Zama... The short answer is no its not better. However it is also not behind. I rate both products highly. -

A: Yes
-
Q: Will fitting non genuine parts such as tail lights and headlights affect the way a Dealership values my vehicle.
A: Yes
There is not a shadow of doubt that there are some superb Non Genuine parts. However a copy of the Mona Lisa is not the Mona Lisa. -
Q: I am looking at a Mazda CX-3 and a Tiggo 4 top of the range. My feeling is long term the Mazda is better. Would you say Yes or No.
A: Yes
-
Q: My 2018 Audi has only 41 000km. Not given me a days trouble. For R37 000 I can extend the time by three years and still to 100 000km. Would you advise i do?
A: Yes
Absolutely do it. The Audi Freeway Plan is a superb product and your R37 000 will be superbly spent and you will recover it all I guarantee you! -
Q: I am on the fence regarding Stop Start technology. Simply put is Mikey a fan of it.
A: No
-
Q: In your opinion is it wise and safe to buy a car privately off the Internet.
A: No
-
