At the recent annual Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy, BMW showcased two notable developments: the limited-production Concept Speedtop shooting brake and a preview of the upcoming M2 CS design. The event, known for attracting automotive enthusiasts, highlighted the brand’s focus on exclusivity and performance.

The Concept Speedtop, a fixed-roof counterpart to last year’s Skytop Concept, draws subtle inspiration from BMW’s M Coupe lineage. Designed as a shooting brake, it features a tapered rear profile, a shark-nose front grille and slim LED headlights. A distinctive central spine runs from the bonnet over the roof, complemented by a gradient paint finish transitioning from ‘Floating Sunstone Maroon’ to ‘Floating Sundown Silver’. Unique 14-spoke alloy wheels further differentiate the model.

Built on the M8 Coupe platform, the Speedtop is expected to share its twin turbo-charged V8 engine, delivering 460 kW and 750 Nm. While technical specifications remain unconfirmed, BMW announced plans to produce 70 units, with an estimated price of R10,1-million in South Africa.

Inside, the cabin blends luxury and craftsmanship, featuring brogue-inspired leather detailing and a dual-tone theme. The Floating Sunstone Maroon accents contrast with Moonstone White upholstery, while a roof-mounted light beam echoes the exterior’s central spine. Practical touches include leather-trimmed boot compartments and bespoke Schedoni luggage bags secured behind the seats.

Bernd Körber, BMW’s Senior Vice President of Brand and Product Management, noted the positive reception of last year’s Skytop Concept, which led to a 50-unit production run. “The Speedtop continues this legacy of exclusivity,” he stated, confirming orders are now open for collectors.

Alongside the Speedtop, BMW revealed the exterior design of the M2 CS, set for full debut on 28 May. Details remain scarce, but expectations suggest enhancements in power, weight reduction, and suspension refinements, aligning with the CS line’s performance-oriented ethos.
