Cape Advanced Vehicles has taken the wraps off its latest creation, the GT MkII, a modern reworking of the classic GT40 design that the company has been building for more than 25 years.

The launch comes as Ford marks 60 years since its famous 1-2-3 finish at the 1966 Le Mans 24-hour race, a victory that cemented the GT40's place in motorsport history.

According to CAV Director and Product Architect Jordi Reddy, the timing was deliberate. "The moment deserved a fitting tribute: a modern interpretation of the MkII GT40 that captures the spirit of the original while delivering the refinement, usability, and performance expected of a contemporary supercar," he said.

The GT MkII is built around a carbon-fibre and aluminium monocoque, keeping weight down to 1 350 kilograms. The body panels are carbon-fibre throughout, with large air intakes, circular taillights and an active Gurney spoiler that deploys at speed.

Under the bonnet sits a twin-supercharged 4,2-litre V8 producing close to 600 kW and 880 Nm of torque, directed to all four wheels through a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox. Buyers can also opt for naturally aspirated V8 or twin-turbo V10 engines, with manual or dual-clutch transmission choices available.

The suspension uses KW dampers with three-way adjustment, while braking comes from 8-piston Brembo callipers with optional carbon-ceramic discs for those wanting to shed further weight.

CAV has given the GT MkII a level of everyday usability not always found in this segment. Power windows, power steering, swan-wing doors, anti-lock braking, ESC, traction control and crash bags all feature, along with what the company describes as ample luggage space and access to original equipment spare parts.

The new model replaces CAV's long-running classic GT and will be produced at a rate of ten units per year.

A more exclusive run of 40 cars will be offered as a 60th Anniversary Limited Edition, with custom interior treatments, precious metals and special liveries including ‘Miles Blue Metallic’ and ‘Carroll Black Metallic’ – nods to the figures who shaped the GT40's legacy.

CAV has delivered nearly 250 vehicles to customers worldwide over the past two and a half decades and sees the GT MkII as a move beyond the replica market into limited-production supercar territory.

The company is positioning the car for buyers who want a tailored, coach-built machine rather than an off-the-shelf alternative, with each build reflecting the owner's preferences.
