Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has added an all-wheel-drive derivative to its Tourneo line-up and introduced a new Tourneo Custom Kombi variant, expanding its people-mover range in the local market.

The Tourneo Titanium X AWD joins the existing front-wheel-drive Titanium X, retaining the same specification while adding all-wheel-drive capability.

Power comes from a 2,0-litre EcoBlue four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 125 kW and 390 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive system distributes drive between the front and rear wheels according to available grip, which Ford says will assist on wet roads, gravel and other low-grip surfaces.

The Tourneo Custom Kombi replaces the Tourneo Trend LWB and is aimed at buyers needing a fixed eight-seat configuration for family, business, shuttle or fleet use. It is powered by a 2,0-litre SiT diesel engine producing 100 kW and 360 Nm, matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The cabin has cloth upholstery, front armrests and what Ford describes as generous storage, while exterior features include daytime running lights and optional 16-inch alloy wheels. The dashboard carries a 13-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-inch digital instrument display and FordPass connectivity. A driver monitoring system is also included.

Ryan Searle, director of sales operations at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Manufacturing) (Pty) Ltd, said the Tourneo combines the space and versatility of a people mover with the comfort, technology and refinement expected of a premium passenger vehicle, and that the addition of all-wheel drive gives customers greater confidence across a wider range of conditions.

Of the Kombi, he said it builds on the practical strengths of the outgoing Trend while adding the technology, comfort and refinement of the latest-generation Tourneo Custom.

The Tourneo Custom 2.0L SWB Titanium X AWD 8AT is priced at R1 354 100, and the Tourneo Custom Kombi SWB 8AT at R996 000, both including VAT.
