It is time to let the Coyote howl as Ford’s Dark Horse Mustang growls in alongside the seventh-generation models that were recently launched – the newcomer offering 334 kW and 540 Nm of torque from the specially modified 5,0-litre V8 engine.

The Mustang Dark Horse emerges as the halo model of Ford's Mustang, continuing a tradition to carry on from the last performance-focused series, the Bullitt Mustang, introduced in 2001.

Sunil Sewmohan, Executive Director of Product Marketing at Ford South Africa, calls it "an exclusive model that delivers the thrill of a thoroughbred V8 sports car, equally at home on the road or the track."

Unlike special edition models, the Dark Horse is part of the standard Mustang line-up.

To maximise its performance on and off the track, the Dark Horse boasts advanced powertrain features, including brake cooling NACA ducts, a rear axle cooler and a high-efficiency radiator. These additions, combined with Ford's 10-speed automatic transmission and Torsen rear differential, ensure optimal traction and durability under intense conditions.

Ford has equipped the Dark Horse with MagneRide shocks, larger rear sway bars and heavy-duty front shocks while Brembo six-piston callipers with 390 mm ventilated front discs and a high-performance rear braking system ensure stopping power.

The Mustang rides on staggered Pirelli P ZERO tyres mounted on 19-inch Tarnished Dark aluminium wheels and eerodynamic enhancements, such as a fixed rear wing and race-inspired rear diffuser, along with the shadowed headlamps, gloss-black grille and distinctive ‘fangs’ on the bumper amplify its street cred.

The driver-focused cockpit has a 12,4-inch digital instrument cluster and 13,2-inch SYNC 4 infotainment screen that includes wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Track Apps for customisation and performance tracking.

Interior highlights include suede-wrapped, flat-bottomed steering with Indigo Blue stitching, premium seats with heating and cooling and Deep Indigo seatbelts. Exclusive Dark Horse branding and Black Alley metallic finishes distinguish it from other Mustang models.

The Mustang Dark Horse has a suite of driver-assist features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centring Assist, and Pre-Collision Assist. MagneRide suspension further enhances safety with Active Pothole Mitigation. The model is equipped with seven crash bags and a Thatcham-specification alarm.

The Mustang Dark Horse is priced at R1,5-million, including VAT, and comes with a 6-year/90 000 km service plan.
