The Lepas automotive brand, a member of the Chery Group, has confirmed it will commence local sales in February 2026. The move will introduce three models to the market: the L4, L6 and L8.
Following its initial local brand reveal in November last year, Lepas has outlined its focus on integrating sculpted design with practical technology. The brand character is described as focusing on intentional movement and elegance in daily driving.
Central to the offering is the LEX vehicle platform. Developed by Chery Group, this architecture is engineered to accommodate both new energy and conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. The company states the platform is designed to provide a foundation for electrified driving technologies while also supporting refined ICE vehicle performance.

The platform’s configuration allows for extended wheelbases relative to the vehicle's overall length. For instance, the L4 model has a 2 700 mm wheelbase from a 4 400 mm body, while the L8 offers a 2 800 mm wheelbase within a 4 688 mm length. This approach is intended to prioritise cabin space and a quiet interior environment.
Powertrains will include a 1,5-litre turb-ocharged engine producing 11 5kW and 235 Nm. The brand emphasises tuned dynamics and chassis systems aimed at delivering a balanced and smooth driving experience.
On safety, Lepas states its vehicles are developed according to a global safety framework, utilising computer-aided engineering simulations. The company notes this aligns with the broader objectives of South Africa’s National Road Safety Strategy 2030.

Exterior and interior design takes inspiration from the leopard, featuring defined exterior lines, premium interior materials, and ambient lighting. The design philosophy aims to combine technology with a sense of comfort.
“Lepas brings a different perspective on automotive elegance to South Africa,” says Jay Jay Botes, General Manager of Lepas. “With the LEX platform, we are presenting a harmony of design, comfort, and confidence. This introduction is about starting a new culture of intentional driving.”
