While the Mahindra-backed Jo’burg Super Kings blaze their way through the opposition (despite a narrow loss to MI Cape Town) delighting cricketing crowds, the business of motoring continues unabated and Mahindra has officially unveiled the refreshed XUV 700 in India, now rebranded as the XUV 7X0 – but no official announcement yet of its local arrival.

Taking a page from the book of the XUV 300, which itself evolved into the XUV 3X0, the new XUX 7X0 draws clear inspiration from its smaller sibling. It steps things up, however, with a cabin that’s been thoroughly rethought, while carrying over the proven engine options from the model it replaces.

You can have it configured with either six or seven seats. From the front, it gets a decisive new look, marked by those familiar C-shaped headlamps now framed with a dark trim, a revised grille, a reprofiled bumper, and fresh alloy wheel designs going all the way up to 19 inches. The rear treatment is more subtle, featuring a tweaked bumper and updated light clusters with clear lenses, connected by a sleek, glossy black band that spans the tailgate.

Step inside and the transformation is immediate. Every model now gets a completely redesigned dashboard, a slimmer two-spoke steering wheel, a modernised centre console, and a new touch-sensitive panel for the climate control. Dominating the dash is what Mahindra calls a seamless glass display, housing three 12,3-inch screens.

The feel of the cabin is enhanced with new materials and a generous list of features. These include a Drive Select system with multiple modes, a powerful 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, powered front seats with heating, cooling and memory, auto-folding mirrors, second-row ventilated seats, twin wireless chargers, customisable ambient lighting, pull-up rear window blinds, and a large panoramic sunroof.

On the safety front, it’s well equipped with at least six crash bags, a 540-degree surround-view camera, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, a Driver Drowsiness Alert and Lane Departure Warning.

The XUV 7X0 is offered in six trim levels: AX, AX3, AX5, AX7, AX7 T, and AX7 L. The choice of six or seven seats is reserved for the two top-spec variants. Under the bonnet, you will find two trusted engines: a 2,0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2,2-litre turbo-diesel, both known for their solid performance.

Each engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The manual versions deliver 149 kW and 380 Nm, while the automatics are rated at 136 kW and 420 Nm. Opting for the self-shifting gearbox with the diesel sees torque rise to a hearty 450 Nm.
