Mitsubishi Motors South Africa is preparing to introduce an updated Triton range in the coming months, with the line-up set to be expanded by the addition of a new Triton Bi-Turbo derivative.
The Bi-Turbo model brings increased power, a sportier exterior design and the inclusion of the Mitsubishi Safety Sensing suite. According to the manufacturer, the new derivative builds on the brand’s heritage of durability, reliability and off-road capability while offering improved performance, refined driving dynamics and more advanced technology.
Lerato Nonyane, General Manager for product and marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, said the updates to the 2026 Triton range would ensure the model continued to serve the needs of local bakkie customers while remaining competitive in a rapidly shifting market segment.

The Triton Bi-Turbo combines sporty styling cues with Mitsubishi’s design language, creating a look that ssees the frontal design incorporate the brand’s Dynamic Shield philosophy, featuring a three-dimensional front grille, fenders and a lower protector.
Daytime running lights use three L-shaped LED elements that are said to resemble the sharp gaze of a hawk, and together with the three-light headlamp design below, they give the Bi-Turbo presence.
That theme continues along the sides with large, solid surfaces, while T-shaped tail lights emphasise the width of the rear end. Standard fitment includes roof rails, a styling bar, an assisted rear tailgate and heated door mirrors.
The Bi-Turbo benefits from recalibration of the 2,4-litre 4N16 DI-DC engine and its variable geometry turbo. Power outputs have been raised to 150 kW at 3 500 r/min, with torque of 470 Nm available from 1 500 r/min to 2 750 r/min. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the Bi-Turbo will be sold exclusively as a 4x4 model.
The Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing suite brings a range of driver assistance features. These include adaptive cruise control with steering switch controls, automatic high beam, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, blind spot warning and front and rear parking sensors. A multi-around monitor is also fitted.

The Triton GLS has received a series of exterior updates centred on replacing chrome accents with blacked-out trim. Fog lamp bezels, door handles, side steps and the rear gate handle and garnish are now finished in matte black.
The front bumper garnish, rear bumper, door mirrors and 18-inch alloy wheels feature a metallic black finish. The inner housing of the rear combination lamp has also been blacked out. Mitsubishi says the changes sharpen the Triton’s so-called beast mode styling.
Nonyane added the Triton Bi-Turbo and updated GLS represented the next step in the brand’s commitment to delivering vehicles engineered for both business and lifestyle applications, catering to customers who need versatility, capability and everyday comfort.
Full details and pricing will be released at the actual launch.
