Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has confirmed the updated Ford Territory will reach local showrooms in the coming weeks. The announcement follows growing speculation about when the refreshed SUV would arrive on local soil.

The new model builds on the outgoing version’s track record, bringing revised styling, added connectivity, and a keener focus on what buyers in this segment are looking for. Ford says the Territory is aimed at younger families who need space, modern features and day-to-day usability.

According to Sunil Sewmohan, director of product marketing at Ford South Africa, the latest iteration puts comfort and smart technology at the centre of the experience.

“Territory has always been about helping young, dynamic families get more out of every day,” Sewmohan says. “With the new Territory, comfort and smart technology take priority. It gives customers what they asked for, and then some.”

Under the bonnet, Ford’s familiar 1,8-litre turbo-charged EcoBoost petrol engine does the work, producing 138 kW and 318 Nm. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that uses a rotary dial for gear selection. Drive goes to the front wheels.

The engine also features Auto Start-Stop technology, while Trend and Titanium derivatives come with adaptive cruise control. Multiple drive modes are available across the range.

For the first time in this nameplate, Ford app connectivity will be offered, allowing owners to use their smartphone for certain remote functions. Two new paint options, Cactus Grey and Oasis Green, will be available on all variants.

The facelifted Territory was unveiled in Brazil last year and follows a mid-cycle update first seen in China, where the model is known as the Equator Sport. The South African version matches the Brazilian car’s cosmetic changes.

These include a black grille with chrome inserts, a redesigned front bumper and lower air intake, and colour-coded trim below the light clusters. The headlights themselves are new, shaped in a boomerang pattern that cuts into the upper grille section. At the rear, the light cluster graphics have been updated and the bumper design altered.

Inside, the cabin layout appears unchanged from the Brazilian car. Full local specification details have not yet been released but will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

Since replacing the Kuga two years ago, the Territory has sold an average of 200 units a month in South Africa. The country remains the only right-hand drive market for the model, as China, South America and the Middle East all use left-hand drive.
