The Northern Regions Extreme Festival championships remain wide open after a dramatic penultimate round at Red Star Raceway near Delmas on Saturday. Although the title leaders in the Dunlop V8 Supercars, ATE VW Challenge, DOE Formula Vee and BMW M Performance Parts categories all tasted victory, none have done enough to seal their respective crowns.
Mustang driver Warren Lombard enjoyed a strong day in the Dunlop V8 Supercars. He arrived at Red Star just one point ahead of Terry Wilford in the title chase and wasted little time asserting himself, taking pole position before cruising to victory in the opening race. Wilford recovered from fourth to finish second, ahead of Thomas Reib's Corvette and Franco di Matteo's Mustang. Lombard was again the man on the move in the reverse-grid second race, charging from the back to pass Wilford and take second behind Reib. The trio now heads to the season finale, each still in with a shot at the title. Vic Dias was untroubled in the GT2 class, winning both races from Alan Ryan.

Anthony Lessing strengthened his championship advantage in the ATE VW Challenge by winning both races from pole position. His nearest rivals, rookies Chris Tait and Josh Moore, had no answer to Lessing's pace and had to settle for sharing the minor placings. In Class B, Sebastien Bouilliart and Keegan Nathan each took a win, with Nathan moving up to second in the standings while Max Corbett ended the day third. Bryce Pillay was dominant in Class C, winning both races, with Elna Croeser and Stuart Konig sharing the runner-up spots as Pillay edged ahead in the title race.
Lee Thompson was in a class of his own in the BMW M Performance competition, moving to the top of the Turbo Series standings. Former leader Anton Pommersheim and Leon Loubser shared the second-place finishes. Ethan Coetzee beat Reiner Smith and Wessel Mostert in Class B before Smith bounced back to win the second race from Mostert and Coetzee. Bennie Luyt and Reinhard Miller shared the Class C wins, while Johan Miller took both Class D races. Richard Gerntholtz got the better of Andre van Vuuren and Olerato Sekudu in the BMW NA race, with Tiaan van Rooyen and Desmond Bloem taking class honours. Van Vuuren won the second NA race from Gerntholtz and Bernard de Gouveia, while Claudio Jardim claimed Class D and Bloem added a second Class E victory.

In the DOE Formula Vee, CIM Fuel champion and log leader Lendl Jansen returned to pole position at Red Star before finishing a close second after a race-long battle with his closest rival, Brandon Hills. Kyle Watt emerged on top of a hard-fought scrap for third against MD Bester, Gert van der Berg, Vaughn Hills, Theodore Vermaak and Shaun van der Linde. Jansen then took a welcome win in the second race from Vaughn and Brandon Hills, Bester, Peter Hills and van der Linde, moving himself into striking distance of a title hat trick.
Wayne Robb's Focus passed Jared Rossouw's SupaPolo early on to win the opening Digit FMS 111 GT and Saloons race. Mark du Toit's BMW Z4 finished third, behind GTB winner Wayne Spicer, while Tihan van Rooyen's Polo took Class A, Mike O’Sullivan’s ALL THINGS MOTORING Honda Ballade topped Class B and Troy Starr upset the Class C regulars. Wayne Lebotschy's Golf won Class X, with Dhiren Ganasen taking Class E and Leon Bredenkamp winning SuperHatch. Rossouw bounced back to win the second race from Robb, with Spicer, van Rooyen, Potgieter, Starr, Lebotschy, Ganasen and Bredenkamp all repeating their class victories.
The 2026 Northern Regions Extreme Festival now heads to Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria for the final round on Saturday 21 November. Motorsport fans would do well to mark the date.
