Johannesburg, South Africa - Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) believes that the greatest moments in sport are the result of resilience and the overcoming of seemingly insurmountable challenges. As sponsor of the Absa Cape Epic for the 4th year in a row, Toyota is once again bringing people closer to one of the toughest mountain-bike races in the world. The sponsorship reaffirms support for individuals who, like Toyota, believe in conquering every obstacle placed in front of them.
From 15–22 March 2026, the world’s elite mountain bikers and passionate amateurs will once again test themselves against one of the most demanding stage races on earth. As the ultimate test of endurance in mountain biking, the Absa Cape Epic is an eight-day race, beginning with a high-intensity prologue before unfolding across seven stages of brutal climbs, technical descents and unforgiving terrain.
In 2026, Toyota once again stands ready to support riders as they attempt to conquer every kilometer of the route.
Built for the toughest terrain
A defining feature of the race remains the Toyota Tough sections - strategic stretches of trail designed to test even the strongest riders. These decisive segments demand skill and technical ability, often shaping the outcome of each stage.
Toyota’s support fleet, led by the masterful Land Cruiser Prado, will once again prove its capability by traversing remote access routes, mountain passes and rugged trails to ensure the race runs smoothly from start to finish, all while also taking VIP guests on route tours throughout the course of the race.
For decades, the Land Cruiser has built its reputation in environments wherein endurance and reliability matter most, making the Absa Cape Epic a natural, proving ground for the spirit of conquering any terrain. The Toyota Tough sections provide a unique opportunity to demonstrate the superb off-road capability and technical prowess of the Land Cruiser Prado - serving as the perfect route partner of the Absa Cape Epic.
Toyota riders ready for the Epic Challenge
At the heart of Toyota’s presence in the race are the riders who proudly compete in Toyota jerseys. This year’s lineup showcases a mix of champions and experienced competitors ready to tackle the toughest stage race in mountain biking.
Toyota Men’s Teams
Leading the charge in the Toyota Specialized Inbuko team is three-time Absa Cape Epic champion Matt Beers, whose strength and tactical brilliance have made him one of the most commanding riders in the race’s history. Partnering with him is 2025 podium finisher Tristan Nortje, forming a powerful combination capable of challenging for top honours.
The second team features the experienced Marco Joubert and Travis Stedman. Both riders bring valuable stage-racing experience and technical skills, making them a strong and consistent pairing for the eight days of racing.
Representing the next wave of South African mountain biking talent are Lood Goosen and Jaedon Terlouw. Donning their Toyota jerseys, the duo will be eager to make their mark at the Absa Cape Epic this year.
Toyota Backed Ladies
Candice Lill and Alessandra Keller are teaming up as part of the Thömus Maxon Sabi-Sabi team. Candice, a seasoned South African rider - backed by Rola Toyota - will be pairing up with Swiss world champion Alessandra. Both ladies will be top contenders, looking to take the title in the women’s category this year.
Toyota Mixed Team
In the mixed category, the Toyota Gazoo Racing team sees Sarah Maré (Hill) partner with Riaan Weideman. The duo are no strangers to the Absa Cape Epic. This formidable team recently made the podium at the Tanka Trek together and are looking to take a podium finish at the 2026 installment of the Absa Cape Epic.
Once again championing equality, Toyota SA will be sponsoring the Toyota Mixed Category at this year's race. The green category leader jersey will be handed to the top mixed team after each stage, reinforcing Toyota’s commitment to breaking down barriers and creating a space for equal representation on the podium.
A shared spirit of endurance
The Absa Cape Epic celebrates teamwork and the courage to push beyond limits; these values closely align with Toyota’s commitment to durability, innovation and capability.
As Glenn Crompton, Vice President: Marketing at Toyota South Africa Motors, explains: “Our continued partnership with the Absa Cape Epic reflects Toyota’s belief in pushing boundaries and embracing challenges. For the fourth-year running, Toyota is proud to support a race that challenges both riders and vehicles to perform in some of the toughest conditions imaginable. We look forward to seeing the world’s best athletes take on this incredible journey once again.”
From remote mountain passes to dramatic finish lines, Toyota will once again be there, ensuring that every stage of the Absa Cape Epic is supported by vehicles engineered to perform when the terrain is at its most demanding.
