The 2026 Paris Motor Show is hosting the worldwide debut of the spectacular Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso concept car, embodying the brand's vision of the future and a new expression of its identity. With Cuorerosso, Alfa Romeo returns to its most authentic heart and begins a new chapter in its design, marking a starting point in how it interprets style, function, and technology. Neither an anticipation of a production model nor a mere exercise in style, but an authentic manifesto destined to inspire future models and to set out how the Biscione brand intends to face the new era of electrification.
The car reinterprets with a contemporary flair the hallmarks that have always made an Alfa Romeo immediately recognizable: beauty, sportiness, the Italian spirit and, above all, emotion and driving pleasure. In this new phase, electrification is not only called upon to perpetuate love for the automobile, but to amplify it based on a new interpretation of performance, design, and engagement. For the brand of Italian sportiness since 1910, a car has never solely been a means of moving people, but something that can arouse emotions, ignite the senses and create a deep bond with the driver. A specific way of understanding an automobile is inherent in the Biscione brand’s DNA, going beyond the concept of a mere means of transport to reach the dimension of the most authentic emotions.
Not only distinctive design, engaging performance and advanced technologies define an Alfa Romeo, but above all the symbiotic, visceral relationship established between the car and driver. The roots of this strong, instinctive relationship lie in a profoundly Italian automotive culture like no other in the world, where style, artisanship and innovation are combined with passion and ingenuity, transforming beauty into experience and experience into emotion. A constantly evolving heritage that defines Alfa Romeo's role within Stellantis as a Premium Sports Brand, called upon to interpret the efficient sportiness of the third millennium. Giving shape to this vision are three elements deeply linked to the brand's identity. The concept car draws inspiration from Italy, with its sartorial mastery, great tradition of design, and aesthetic taste; from sportiness, intended as a tension towards dynamism and driving pleasure; and from the color red, a symbol of performance and passion that has always been intrinsic to Alfa Romeo's history.
Three dimensions intertwined in Cuorerosso through shapes, proportions, materials, colors, and design solutions. Hence the creation of a distinctly Italian, 100% Alfa Romeo masterpiece, conceived and developed by those who produce Biscione-brand cars every day for Alfisti fans all over the world, united by the belief that the choice of a car is first and foremost an impulse from deep within, which only then finds confirmation in reason. With no heart, we would be nothing but machines.
The name Cuorerosso encapsulates its essence, combining Heart – a universal symbol of emotions – with Red, a synonym for sportiness. Two identifying elements that beat in unison, forming a statement that goes beyond the concept to set out the brand’s future direction. In Alfa Romeo's stylistic language, that direction relates beauty, functionality, technology, and quality, transforming them into the benchmarks for its future vision. A vision destined to find expression in the key segments of the market, through flexible, multi-energy architectures, with models up to 4.7 meters long and the potential to accommodate Quadrifoglio versions. Regardless of the architecture or technology adopted, the end result will always be an Alfa Romeo that can transform movement into emotion.
Santo Ficili, Alfa Romeo and Maserati CEO, stated: “Alfa Romeo has always created cars that are capable not only of moving people, but of arousing something within them. It is this human-machine connection, fueled by a unique culture of the Italian spirit, sportiness and passion, which makes each of our cars an Alfa Romeo. With Cuorerosso, we bring this identity into the future, one open to different energy solutions, in which technology, function and quality are always at the service of emotions and driving pleasure. This is our idea of Bellezza Necessaria: to create cars designed for those who love to drive, which can interpret their time and simultaneously become icons.”
The Italian spirit, beauty brought about by eschewing the superfluous
In Cuorerosso, the Italian spirit is expressed through a conception of beauty that never separates aesthetics and function. That’s where the principle of “Bellezza Necessaria” – a term coined by the Alfa Romeo brand – becomes a true design philosophy that eliminates the superfluous, reduces the components to the essentials, and gives each one a precise function, all enhanced by materials, workmanship and finishes at the highest level. More than merely a stylistic canon, Bellezza Necessaria represents Alfa Romeo's vision of the beauty of the future, where aesthetics, functionality, technology, and quality combine to define a single design language.
Such an approach that draws on the great Italian sculptural tradition, where beauty appears to already exist within the material in the expectation of its release. Likewise, after spending only a week or two on the initial sketches, the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile moved straight on to three-dimensional modeling, tackling the Cuorerosso project as a single solid block to be sculpted, devoid to begin with of wheels, glazing, visuals and details. A deliberately radical design gesture, to enable the designers to focus on theme, proportions and volumes, progressively eliminating the superfluous until the form emerged. The result is a living, monolithic, continuous sculpture, whose surfaces seem to merge like liquid metal and accompany the gaze uninterrupted along the car's entire body, conveying a feeling of movement and dynamism even when stationary. The ambition was to create an object that was beautiful in itself, a kind of sculpture that could exist independently of its automotive nature. A profoundly Italian way of conceiving the project, with which Alfa Romeo continues to inspire the world from Italy through its own interpretation of performance and design.
Sportiness, a tension towards dynamism and driving pleasure
Cuorerosso is a fascinating 2+2 coupé, designed uninterrupted from one end to the other, which combines strongly sporty proportions with elegant lines and surfaces, by blending the character of a Gran Turismo with the scenic presence and dynamism of a supercar. 4,700 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and just 1,331 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm and a weight of 1,750 kg, the new Alfa Romeo concept car is an authentic manifesto of sportiness, fully expressed in the proportions and tension of the surfaces. The aerodynamic research is expressed through three key elements: the pure and uninterrupted shape of the car, the Coda Tronca (truncated tail) and the low diffuser built into the bodywork. Together, these factors make it possible to achieve an aerodynamic coefficient (Cx) of 0.28.
From the side, it is crossed by the characteristic wedge line that runs from the front to the rear, imparting tension and power to the bodywork and culminating in the Coda Tronca, one of the most recognizable codes from Alfa Romeo tradition and its continuous research into aerodynamic efficiency. Two other world-famous Alfa Romeo stylistic features also stand out on the front – Lo Scudetto as an essential part of the Trilobo – reinterpreted here with a contemporary flair. Specifically, the Trilobo defines the ‘face’ of Cuorerosso through dialogue between the central Scudetto and the front headlights, resembling a pair of eyes with deliberately natural proportions and fixing a concentrated, self-confident gaze. This decision gives the concept personality and presence: for Alfa Romeo, a car cannot be reduced to a cold piece of technology but must be able to establish an authentic relationship with the observer. In the middle, the Alfa Romeo Scudetto arises directly from the sculptural volume and propagates along the bonnet, inspired by the wake of a boat in motion on the water. The grille is characterized by a weave of small backlit triangular elements that dialogue with the historic symbols of the Cross and the Biscione, generating a light signature that beats like a heart. The same beat animates the driver’s “welcome light,” giving Cuorerosso an almost living presence. The rear is dominated by a Scudetto-shaped rear window, perfectly integrated into the body volume, while the Coda Tronca houses two circular lights. The cleanliness of the surfaces continues along the sides, where the traditional handles disappear and the doors are opened via a touch control on the roof.
Further emphasis of the concept car’s sporty nature lies in the fully flush windows, the logos integrated into the bodywork, and the rear-facing doors, which make access to the interior even more spectacular. The rear-view mirrors are also refined design elements and feature a sequence of inlays embellished with the Italian flag. Their shape echoes the pattern of aerodynamic slats, which section volumes to reduce visual mass and frontal surface, and thus permit air flow. Similarly, the forged wheels reinterpret the iconic ‘telephone’ configuration through six circular elements arranged on the three spokes according to a 2+2+2 scheme, with openings and triangular grooves in the shape of the Scudetto, to lighten the design and improve aerodynamic efficiency, while the titanium-inspired color treatment combines cool tones and warmer metallic reflections. Finally, the presence of the legendary Quadrifoglio symbol reaffirms the desire to take one of the most authentic expressions of Alfa Romeo sportiness ahead into the future. The vocation for performance is also reflected in the dynamic component, with air suspension and a Brembo carbon-ceramic braking system equipped with specific Alfa Romeo calipers. The interior also conveys the same idea of dynamism, interpreted through lightness, simplicity and the centrality of the driver, with enveloping shapes and ergonomic seats that reinterpret the traditional bucket seat concept with a contemporary flair. The result is a sporty, immersive environment, gathered around the occupants like a driving glove, but at the same time in comfort courtesy of carefully designed ergonomics. Exactly this principle that guides a project built around the person, in which each component contributes to creating a physical and sensory connection with the concept. More specifically, the interior features a lengthened center console and dynamic longitudinal volumes on the door panels, to envelop the occupants of the four individual seats.
In turn, the dashboard – drawing inspiration from the architecture of the 1967 33 Stradale and its newly launched counterpart – and its thin, horizontal, transverse movement accentuates the perception of lightness, stability and technical control, visually expanding the space to its continuity in the door panels. Interaction with the car is reduced to the essentials and optimized to let the driver and passengers enjoy the in-car experience, by showing information and controls only when genuinely necessary. In the interior, everything converges towards the driver, in front of whom the new "Cannocchiale Vivente” stands out as a reinterpretation of one of the brand's stylistic features. It is transformed it into a dynamic interface, animated by advanced kinematics that offer a choice between two distinct configurations: “Immersivo” retains the traditional two-element setting; in the “Concentrato” configuration, the two telescopes physically merge into one, recalling the essentiality of the instrumentation seen in racing cars of the past. As engagement in driving increases, the information is gradually reduced, leaving room for the absolute necessities only.
This technology has potential for further development in STLA SmartCockpit, the Stellantis digital platform designed to offer an increasingly intuitive, personalized, and evolving in-car experience over time, while preserving the distinctive identity of each brand. The same philosophy accompanies the three driving experiences – Cruise, Sport and Quadrifoglio – which modulate the interaction between the driver and car according to the level of engagement required. The electronically controlled ‘steer-by-wire’ steering system enables the iconic three-spoke steering wheel to be reinterpreted with a contemporary flair, through the principle of “Con-tatto Volante”. A strong physical and analogue component is maintained, in which haptic and acoustic feedback from the mechanical controls strengthen the direct connection between driver and concept. Always a privileged point of contact between an Alfa Romeo and its driver, the steering wheel takes on an even more central role in the physical relationship with the car. Completing this visceral relationship is the “Magma Display,” a sophisticated phygital control center positioned on the central tunnel, which combines a digital touch surface with rotary dial, drive mode selector and toggle controls. Together with the ergonomic seats, the console assists in the creation of an all-encompassing environment in which the technology and controls remain discreet until needed, then become intuitive, immediately accessible, simple, and precise. Last but not least, the concept also anticipates the multi-energy approach Alfa Romeo is taking to look ahead to the future, based on an offering ready to include Full-Electric, Plug-in Hybrid, Mild Hybrid and Full-Hybrid solutions, to meet varying needs of use without sacrificing the brand's distinctive values. With this in mind, the epitome of performance can be imagined through a 2.9 V6 Full-Hybrid powertrain, paired with Q4 all-wheel drive, torque converter, and carbon fiber driveshaft. A configuration that interprets electrification according to the Alfa Romeo philosophy, putting technology and innovation at the service of driving pleasure and sportiness.
Red, energy from the heart
In Cuorerosso, the hue of passion, sportiness and Alfa Romeo identity stands as more than a mere color choice. It is an energy that runs through the concept, shapes its perception and seems to propagate from the inside out and vice versa. On the bodywork, it takes shape in the new Liquid Ink Red color, obtained through the combination of a fine aluminum base and a colored transparent layer, creating an almost infinite visual depth. Light penetrates the surface and is reflected from within, making the color appear suspended between liquid metal and incandescent lava, and giving the monolithic sculpture of Cuorerosso a kind of inner luminosity.
Struck by the light, it appears intense and vibrant; as the angle of observation alters, it changes to black, giving the impression that the color is not simply applied to the surface, but that Cuorerosso is illuminated by an energy from within. The same principle also applies to the interior, where red becomes matter, light and movement, meeting a design culture that combines traditional artisanship and experimentation. The rear-door opening into the wind makes this transition even more spectacular: entering the passenger compartment almost evokes the feeling of crossing the threshold of Alfa Romeo's heart, immersed in a red, sinuous and all-encompassing environment where there is a precise reason for the existence of every component. Nubuck and metals in shades inspired by titanium, anthracite and gunmetal dialogue with new-generation materials, including a special regenerated leather containing 60% post-industrial waste from the processing of premium upholstery, to give a second life to the material without sacrificing quality or the sensory component. Even the choice of materials follows the principle of Bellezza Necessaria: soft, hand-finished Poltrona Frau nubuck is used only in areas in direct contact with the occupants, concentrating quality, artisanship and tactile richness where they can truly be perceived. All this is accompanied by the technological research conducted together with Luna Rossa, which has inspired a lightweight, transparent and tensioned monofilament fabric for the dashboard, derived from the experience of technical clothing used in high-performance ocean sailing, to combine lightness, resistance, and functionality. A meeting point between different worlds that relates the warmth and tactility of traditional materials with the lightness and technical nature of the highest innovation in the field.
In this environment, the energy of Cuorerosso seems to come to life. When the center console activates, red light emerges from within through a texture inspired by magma and lava, transforming a seemingly inactive surface into one that pulsates with life. The same language feeds research into new-generation composite materials, where Alfa Romeo is experimenting with recycled carbon fibers combined with red resins, for an almost organic materiality. The same attention to material and workmanship emerges in the details, as seen in the headrests, produced according to a complex leatherworking process. Previously tried out on the 33 Stradale, they enhance the brand's artisan mastery. Room is also left for a special removable bag, perfectly built into the dashboard area on the passenger side, which can be taken away on exiting the concept car. The straps securing it in place become its handle, following the philosophy of Bellezza Necessaria that assigns each component a precise function. A detail that serves as an ideal extension of the Cuorerosso experience to beyond the passenger compartment, to reaffirm a typically Italian idea for the project where the car, design, fashion, and lifestyle enter into seamless dialogue. This energy is also propagated through color, following a true gradient: approaching the driver, the red progressively acquires intensity, visually translating the growing concentration of passion, attention and performance, whereas towards the rear it gradually cools into darker, deeper shades. The same principle inspires the processing of Poltrona Frau nubuck, made using a manually applied color that creates a specific shaded effect, as if the energy were radiating from the front to the rest of the interior. The light also abandons any purely decorative function and becomes part of the interaction with the driver, communicating different information according to driving mode. In the Concentrated configuration, it is reduced to eliminate any possible distraction; in Quadrifoglio mode, certain elements of the lighting are further dimmed and four points of light in the vents symbolically recall the Cross from the Alfa Romeo logo. Ultimately, through a calibrated progression of color, matter and light, Cuorerosso thus transforms the primordial energy of lava into living matter, which seems to pulsate at the same rhythm as the driver’s heart.
