Chery South Africa has added a new version of its popular Tiggo 8 to the local line-up, with the introduction of the Tiggo 8 Pro LS. This model takes the place of the previous Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6TGDI 290T Executive+ and has been designed to offer families a stronger mix of convenience, technology and everyday usability without shifting the brand’s value-focused position in the SUV segment.
The newcomer carries a price tag of R499 900 and brings with it a range of updates that touch on styling, cabin features, onboard tech and driver assistance systems.
Under the bonnet, the Tiggo 8 Pro LS retains Chery’s 1,6-litre turbo-charged petrol unit, which puts out 137 kW and 275 Nm of torque. That power is directed to the front axle through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with combined fuel consumption listed at 7,2 l/100 km. The 51-litre fuel tank makes for reasonable range whether you are doing the school run or heading out of town for the weekend.

On the outside, Chery has given the Tiggo 8 Pro LS a slightly sportier face, along with new full-width LED tail lamps that stretch across the rear. The lighting set-up also includes automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights and fog lamps, while the exterior mirrors are heated to help clear mist or rain. Buyers can choose from three colours: New Khaki White, New Carbon Black and Tech Gray.
Inside, the cabin has been updated with a pair of 12,3-inch digital screens, one serving as the instrument cluster and the other handling infotainment duties. That system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Bluetooth, Intelligent Voice Command, front and rear USB ports and a 50-watt wireless charger for phones.

The seats are trimmed in synthetic leather, with electric adjustment for the front pair, memory function for the driver’s side and four-way electric lumbar support for the driver. Heating and ventilation are also included for the front seats, while dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror add to the sense of cabin quality. Second-row passengers get their own air-conditioning outlet, and there is independent climate control for the third row.
Practicality is a key part of the Tiggo 8 Pro LS package. With space for seven occupants, the SUV measures 4?745 mm long, 1?860 mm wide and 1?705 mm tall, riding on a 2?710 mm wheelbase. Luggage capacity starts at 117 litres with all seats upright and grows to 739 litres when the third row is folded flat. A power-operated tailgate with smart-key access makes it easier to load and unload, whether you are dealing with groceries, school bags or holiday luggage.
Safety and driver assistance have also been given attention. A 540-degree high-definition camera system gives the driver a full view around and beneath the vehicle, which is helpful when reversing or slotting into tight parking bays. That is backed up by front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, door-open warning and rear collision warning. The advanced assistance list includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-departure prevention, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist and intelligent high-beam control.
These are joined by seven crash bags, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, hill-descent control, tyre-pressure monitoring, an emergency stop signal, speed-limit reminder, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, child-safety locks and seatbelt reminders for both driver and front passenger.
Verene Petersen, National Marketing Manager at Chery South Africa, said the Tiggo 8 Pro LS was developed with local family needs in mind. “Buyers are looking for vehicles that make daily routines simpler, whether through thoughtful safety features, adaptable seating, modern connectivity or small convenience touches that improve every trip.” She added this new trim level was a direct response to those expectations.
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro LS is priced at R499?900 and comes with a five-year or 150?000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year or 1-million kilometre engine warranty for the first owner and a 5-year or 75?000 km service plan.
It is also covered under Chery’s Trans-national Warranty Programme, which is part of the Chery Family Care offering and allows owners to get warranty-related work done at authorised Chery centres in other countries, giving added peace of mind for those who travel across borders or relocate.
