The first Omoda E5 fully electric vehicle has arrived in South Africa for final testing and homologation purposes ahead of its planned launch later this year.
For the Australian market – where it still has to be launched – two variants have been confirmed, namely Standard and Premium both with a front-mounted 150 kW/340 Nm electric motor and a 61 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
If it's Omoda you are looking for - we have some beautiful pre-owned ones here.
South African models and specifications will be announced closer to the actual launch date.
The Omoda E5 is not just about power; it is about endurance too. With a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 430 kilometres and a power consumption of 15,5kWh/100km, this SUV is ready for long journeys. And when it comes to speed, it does not disappoint either, boasting a claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 7,6 seconds.
But what makes the Omoda E5 truly stand out is its fast charging capability. With 110 kW peak DC fast charging speeds, it takes around just 30 minutes to charge from 0% to 80%.
Inside, the Omoda E5 is impressive and confirmed equipment for Australia includes a 12,3-inch curved infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and a wealth of exterior and interior colour options to choose from – again we will just have to wait and see.
The Omoda E5 sits on a converted internal-combustion engine platform, sharing the same underpinnings as the petrol Omoda 5 but, design-wise, the Omoda E5 is a breath of fresh air. It features a smoother front end with longer and more angular LED daytime running lights and restyled headlights.
It also sports more aerodynamic-looking wheels and a different rear bumper without fake plastic exhaust tips.
