It just keeps on growing – and there is now a new option for Ford Ranger buyers in the form of the Tremor that is based on the XLT but gains a black honeycomb grille with LED auxiliary driving lights and Border Grey detailing.
“The new Ranger raised the bar for comfort, practicality, performance and safety, and we are broadening both its appeal and capability even further with the addition of the Ranger Tremor,” says Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa. “Tremor is aimed at customers who require enhanced capability and confidence in conquering challenging off-road conditions, as well as owners that typically customize their vehicle for overlanding adventures.

“Although the Tremor has all of the enhanced off-road capabilities shared with the Wildtrak X, it is based on the XLT series which makes it a more affordable option that is ideally suited to the most adventurous exploits and hard-working environments.”
This means the Ranger Tremor Double Cab uses the same 154 kW/500 Nm 2,0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine and full-time four-wheel drive (4WD) system as the Wildtrak X, including the Trail Turn Assist feature.
It also debuts a new driver assist feature to the Ranger line-up, in the form of Pro Trailer Backup Assist with Trailer Reverse Guidance, which is being introduced as standard on Tremor, Wildtrak X, the upcoming Ranger Platinum and the Ranger Raptor. It will also be offered as an option on the standard Wildtrak models.
Ranger Tremor also gets a steel bash plate, steel underbody protection for the engine, transfer case and fuel tank, two front tow hooks, cast aluminium side steps and the long-leg tubular sports bar.
The off-road enhancements incorporate the same reworked suspension with specially developed Bilstein Position-Sensitive Dampers as used on the Wildtrak X. This allows a 24 mm increase in ground clearance accompanied by a 30 mm wider track.

Inside, the seats are trimmed in water-resistant black vinyl with Medium Dark Urban Grey stitching. The front seats incorporate the Tremor logo embroidered in orange on the seatbacks, and provide six-way adjustment.
As with the Wildtrak X, the Tremor is equipped with Ford's Off-road SYNC Screen with the 360-degree camera system that makes manoeuvring in tight spaces in absolute cinch. This also means that the XLT’s 10,1-inch touchscreen display makes way for the larger 12-inch version. Wireless charging is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Standard driver assist and active safety features common to the Ranger line-up, such as Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, Dynamic Stability Control (which includes Load Adaptive Control, Roll Over Mitigation, Traction Control and Trailer Sway Control). It also boasts the Lane Keeping System with Road Edge Detection, Pre-Collision Assist (with Dynamic Brake Support, Forward Collision Warning System and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection), Reverse Brake Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring with Trailer Coverage, and parking sensors front and rear are all included.
Ford Protect will be included as standard, comprising of a four-year or 120 000 km warranty, four-year or unlimited distance Roadside Assistance and five-year or unlimited distance corrosion warranty. The recommended service interval is 15 000 km or annually, whichever occurs first.
