Zwartkops Raceway is gearing up for a big day of historic racing this Saturday, 26 September, and Pretoria fans can expect the usual full grids, rare machines and a few fresh combinations as the long weekend brings a touch of spring to the trackside braais.
The programme is stacked with historic action, including combined Legends of the 9 Hour Sports, GTs and Trans-Am races, the Evapco HRSA Sprint and Pursuit Challenge and Single Seaters, plus Marlboro Crane Legend and Little Giant Production Cars. Contemporary fans are also catered for with the Dunlop ATS Lotus Challenge, Monoposto single seaters, two helpings of Silver Cup 2.0s and Real Pro Auto Clubmans action.

The Legends of the 9 Hour races will stir memories of the old Springbok Series, with the mighty Lola T70s of Mark du Toit, Larry Wilford and Neil Lobb taking on Peter Bailey's Ford GT40 and the Chevron B8s of Jonathan du Toit and Allen Meyer. A scrapping pack of Daytonas, Porsches and Cobras will be snapping at their heels all the way to the flag.
Adding to the thunder is a field of monster Legends V8s. Ben Morgenrood and Jonathan Needham's Mustangs, Alistair Simpson's Capri Perana, the Camaros of Colin Ellison and Michael Kernick, Seef Fourie's Yunnick Chevelle and Paige Lindenberg's Fairlane are all in the mix, along with Uli Sanne's splendid BMW 3.5 CSL "Batmobile", Steve Pickering's Porsche 910 and Carel Pienaar's Datsun 240Z.
On a huge Evapco HRSA Sprint grid, the Porsche 911 RSRs of Peter Bailey, Nicky Dicks and George Avvukomedes look like the cars to beat, but Werner Kotze and Willem Botha's Mazda R100s, the Sciroccos of Andre ten Napel and Jannie van Rooyen and Seef Fourie's Datsun 140Y should not be taken lightly. In the classes, Mike O'Sullivan's Ballade, Dave Leyshon's Scirocco and the Datsun duo of Keegan Ward and Ian Richards will be worth watching.
Historic single seater fans have plenty to look forward to. Ian Schofield's Reynard, the Dulons of Des Hillary and Paul Richardson, Ryan Ludik's Titan and the Van Diemen pair of Steve Venter and Ben van der Westhuizen will be battling Colin Clay's 23C sportscar and Stuart Greig in a 1957 Cooper Climax. Formula Vee men Tony Beecher, Michael Kernick and the rest will also be in the fight.

In more contemporary fare, Allen Meyer's Formula VW and the GTi men and woman Joss Chaikin, Damien Archer and Nadine van der Merwe have been on form in Monoposto, chased by a pack of Formula Ms and Vees. Mackie Adlem, Dewald Smith, Josef Kotze, Rudi Barnard and Rachelle du Plessis are the top Dunlop ATS Lotus Challenge Class A drivers, while Nick Hodgson, Sean Hepburn and Juan du Toit are the Locost favourites.
The Car Care Clinic SilverCup 2.0 field is so large it has been split in two. Anton Bitzer and Dewald Pretorius' Mazda RX7s, Wessel Mostert's BMW M3 Turbo, Zander Jacobs' Corrado, Ulandi Exner's Mini Cooper and Johan Minnaar in a Backdraft Cobra S are among those to watch. Adriaan le Roux and Klippies Krige's Super 7s should set the pace among the Real Pro Clubmans, NSCC, MHCC and Trofeo races, with Lerine Wentzel's Subaru and the Ballades of Rodney Kruis and Victor Dias ready to mix things up.
