Dunlop Tyres South Africa and Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) have launched a local supplier development initiative, integrating specialised tyre expertise directly into the production line at IMSAf’s Struandale plant in Gqeberha.
The collaboration aims to advance social enterprise development, bolster localisation efforts and generate opportunities for Eastern Cape businesses. The operational partnership is with Eastern Cape Tyres, a company owned by long-standing Dunlop franchisee Matthew Nondwayi.

Lubin Ozoux, CEO of Dunlop Tyres SA, says the initiative demonstrates how multinationals can collaborate with a common focus on development. “We see this as a project that supports local entrepreneurship while providing Isuzu Motors South Africa with dedicated service and technical support.”
The in-house tyre assembly operations are managed by Nondwayi’s enterprise. A tyre dealer with more than 30 years of industry experience, Nondwayi previously operated several Dunlop fitment centres and grew his own dealership network from a single outlet in the Eastern Cape.
“This partnership represents thirty years of work and a focus on service,” Nondwayi says. “To begin by supplying bakkie tyres and to now be assisting the assembly line for a manufacturer like IMSAf, here in the province, illustrates the potential when large corporations engage local suppliers. We are applying our expertise within the Struandale plant and are pleased to include this operation as part of Eastern Cape Tyres.”

Komane Pitso, Executive Vice President for Procurement and Logistics at IMSAf, added: “Our commitment at Isuzu Motors South Africa is to promote transformation and inclusivity by enabling local businesses and reinforcing our local value chain. The partnership with Dunlop Tyres South Africa and Nondwayi’s team supports these objectives directly at our manufacturing site.”
