GQEBERHA – ISUZU Motors South Africa has introduced the enhanced MU-X, an adventurous SUV that combines impressive capability with premium comfort, intelligent technology, and refined design. Improved with significant upgrades in active safety and driver assistance systems, the 2026 model year line-up raises the bar for intelligent convenience while also introducing refinements to the proven 1.9-litre powertrain.

The MU-X has built a strong reputation for its bold styling, comfort, convenience, luxury, fuel efficiency, and rugged reliability. The Model year 2026 MU-X further elevates these strengths by delivering a smarter, more connected, and confidence-inspiring driving experience for modern SUV customers.

“The ISUZU MU-X builds upon the core strengths of the current model, adding increased levels of intelligent safety, driver assistance, and powertrain refinement, making the MU-X even more appealing to purchasers of a multifaceted SUV,” says Kevin Fouchè, Product Planning Department Executive, ISUZU Motors South Africa.

Major Safety and Driver Assistance Upgrades

For the first time on the MU-X, the ONYX XT derivatives are now equipped with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control. The system automatically adjusts vehicle speed to maintain a safe following distance, helping to reduce driver fatigue during long-distance travel and in heavy traffic conditions.

The safety upgrades are further complemented by the addition of Traffic Sign Recognition and an Intelligent Speed Limiter. Using the vehicle’s forward-facing camera, the system detects posted speed limits, assisting drivers in avoiding unintentional speeding while enhancing overall road safety.

Further enhancing the technology package, the ONYX XT variants now feature a dedicated USB port integrated with the stereo camera system.

Powertrain Refinement for Greater Efficiency

The proven 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine, available on LS models, has undergone further refinement to deliver smoother power delivery and improved fuel efficiency, while retaining outputs of 110 kW and 350 Nm.

The 3.0-litre engine remains unchanged, continuing to produce 140 kW and 450 Nm across LS, LSE and ONYX XT derivatives. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, with 4x2 and 4x4 configurations available depending on the model.

Enhanced Convenience Across the Range

Every MU-X model now benefits from Headlamp Welcome Lights as standard. Remotely unlocking the vehicle illuminates the low beam and parking lamps, providing added security and convenience in low-light environments. The duration of the function can be customised through the vehicle settings or disabled entirely if preferred.

Carry-Over Premium Features

The Model Year 2026 MU-X retains the premium features that have made it a benchmark in its segment. These include a hands-free power tailgate on LSE models and above, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-inch multi-information display, and a 360-degree Surround View Monitor on LSE and ONYX XT variants.

The suspension continues to feature larger diameter shock absorbers, contributing to a smooth and composed ride across urban and off-road environments alike. The range-topping ONYX XT also retains its distinctive gloss black exterior accents, red ambient interior lighting, and exclusive XT badging.

Built for the Journey Ahead

The 2026 ISUZU MU-X continues to set the benchmark for SUVs that combine versatility, refinement, reliability, and adventure-ready performance. Whether navigating city streets, tackling demanding off-road terrain, or embarking on long-distance road trips, the MU-X is engineered to deliver comfort, confidence, and capability throughout every journey.

With major upgrades in intelligent safety technology and refined powertrain efficiency, the MU-X is built to get you there.
