After some months of teaser images, the Jetour brand has been formally launched in South Africa with the Dashing and X70 Plus as the first two models of a planned model range expansion that will see a luxury bakkie joining the line-up in 2027.

Li Xueyong, President of Jetour Auto explained: “We make our cars from the perspective of users, through the lens of the travel industry and capabilities of the auto industry.”

Jetour is the ‘Maverick’ of Chery Holdings and operates as a completely standalone company around the world and will be doing just that as Jetour South Africa with no direct connection to Chery South Africa and will continue its global focus on targeting car buyers who like to get out and about.

Indeed, the name is derived from ‘JET’ meaning sleek, fast and successful and ‘TOUR’, which references the brand’s ethos of freedom and adventure.

“We deeply integrate products, ecology and travel to build our own Travel+ strategy,” says Xueyong. “Travel+Technology and Travel+Ecology together make Jetour’s Travel+ strategy, which is the long-term plan for our development.”

“South Africa is a mature and highly competitive market. We have focused on the South African market for a long time, with the aim of bringing the most popular products to customers here. We are fully prepared, backed by extensive customer research, robust product development and strategic network service planning. The launch of the Dashing and X70 Plus is just the beginning,”

Having sold 1,22-million vehicles globally across its five product lines within 70 months alone, the brand has high expectations for the South African market.

“By the end of this year, we aim for 2 000 unit sales, with a cumulative sales goal of 30 000 units over the next three years.”

The Jetour X70 Plus 1.5T Momentum comes to market priced at R454 900 with the more luxurious X70 Plus 1.5T Deluxe launch for R484 900 and is a 7-seater SUV, designed for families and travel enthusiasts.

The Jetour X70 Plus features a striking front grille paired with sleek, elongated LED headlights. It is equipped with an advanced rear parking camera and sensors, ensuring seamless navigation in tight spaces. Designed for an active lifestyle, the vehicle is fitted with robust tyres, making it well suited for both urban driving and off-road adventures.

Inside, the X70 Plus offers a blend of modern elegance and sophistication. The cabin is adorned with ambient lighting and crafted red stitching. Premium synthetic leather seats, a panoramic glass sunroof and state-of-the-art safety features — including Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Detection — enhance the driving experience, making journeys both comfortable and secure.

Power comes from a 1,5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine delivering 115 kW at 5 500 r/min and 230 Nm of torque from 1 750 r/min and driving through an automated dual-clutch 6-speed gearbox with claimed fuel consumption of 7,8 l/100 km, giving a fuel range of  731 kilometres from its 57-litre tank.

The differences between the two variants are relatively minor – the Momentum has four crash bags to the six in the Deluxe, which also gets a panoramic sunroof and two additional speakers.

Also branded Momentum and Deluxe pricing is R439 900 for the former and R469 900 and they utilise the same engine and gearbox as the X70, offering the same estimated fuel consumption and driving range along with specification and fixtures emulating the bigger sibling.

Jetour South Africa Vice President Nic Campbell says: “We are not just launching vehicles, but we are unveiling the future that will take us on a journey towards a smarter, more connected and a more exciting future for mobility. It is a statement of where we are going and what we stand for.”

The company has already invested R100-million in parts, with inventory housed at its Midrand headquarters and Campbell said some 40 dealers nationwide had been appointed, “ensuring comprehensive customer support and service”.

Xueyong added: “We will spare no effort to bring the best products and experiences to the South African people.”
