MG Motor South Africa has issued a safety recall for its recently launched MG3 hatchback. The recall involves a potential fault where, in the event of a collision, the seat frame could contact the adjustment mechanism, possibly leading to minor seat movement.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) confirmed the recall on Thursday, stating it affects 209 MG3 units sold across the country from August 30, 2025 onward.

"In the interest of consumer safety, owners of the affected vehicles are advised to present their cars at the nearest authorised MG dealership for a service intervention," the NCC said in its statement.

All inspections and any necessary repairs will be conducted free of charge. The popular hatchback, which hit local showrooms in late August, is built in China under the historic British marque, which is now owned by the SAIC Motor corporation.

The recalled MG3 models, offered in Comfort and Luxury trim lines, start at R269 900. They are sold with a three-year/45 000 km service plan and a lengthy 7-year/200 000 km warranty. The model line-up includes two engine choices: a 1,5-litre petrol unit and a more powerful hybrid variant.

The MG3 joins the brand's local range alongside the ZS, ZS Pro, and HS SUVs, as well as the electric Cyberster sports car.
