Volvo Car South Africa has launched the updated XC60 for the local market, bringing a host of revisions to its mid-size SUV. The model receives refreshed styling, an upgraded interior and a new-generation infotainment system.

The model line-up continues with a choice of electrified powertrains. The B5 derivative, offered in Core and Plus trims, features a turbo-charged 2,0-litre petrol engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This setup delivers 183 kW and 350 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h time of 6,9 seconds, while returning a combined fuel consumption figure of 7,6 l/100km. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

For those seeking more electric driving capability, the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid is available in Plus and Ultra grades. It combines a petrol engine with an electric motor for a total output of 340 kW and 709 Nm, achieving 0–100 km/h in 4,8 seconds. Its 19 kWh battery supports an electric-only range of up to 81 km, with a certified fuel consumption as low as 1,8 l/100km. It also features all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Externally, the XC60 presents a cleaner front end with a reworked air intake and the brand's updated iron mark badge, bringing it in line with the recent update of the larger XC90. Darker rear lights and new alloy wheel designs contribute to its refreshed stance. The colour palette welcomes two new shades, Forest Lake and Aurora Silver, while Mulberry Red, previously seen on larger models, is now an option for the XC60.

Inside, the cabin maintains its Scandinavian design ethos but gains new premium materials and refreshed decorative inlays. Practicality is improved with redesigned cup holders, a more effective wireless charger, and additional storage solutions. The boot remains spacious and flexible.

Personalisation options include different exterior trim finishes; the B5 Core and T8 Plus feature bright trim, while the B5 Plus and T8 Ultra receive a Glossy Black finish. Standard equipment includes LED headlights and a panoramic sunroof on all but the Core model, where it is an option. Wheel sizes range from 18 inches on the Core, up to 22 inches as an option across the range.

Comfort is a key focus, with laminated side windows and available air suspension contributing to a quieter cabin. Volvo's advanced air purification system is standard. The cabin seats five and offers a range of upholstery choices, including Nordico vinyl, Navy Herringbone textile, and ventilated Nappa leather on higher grades. Décor inlays range from Sporty Metal Mesh to Natural or White Wood. An Orrefors crystal gear selector features on Plus and Ultra models.

Standard features are comprehensive, encompassing a power-adjustable driver's seat with memory, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, climate control, a power-operated tailgate and keyless entry.

A major update is the new-generation infotainment system, presented on a larger 11,2-inch free-standing touchscreen with higher pixel density. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, the system offers faster response times and quicker graphics. It comes with integrated Google services and supports over-the-air updates. A 12,3-inch driver display is also standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity.

The audio offerings begin with a High Performance sound system on Core and Plus models. A Harman Kardon system is optional on these, while the T8 Ultra comes standard with a Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system, which is also available as an option for the B5 Plus and T8 Plus.

Safety, a longstanding Volvo priority, is addressed with a suite of driver assistance systems and passive safety features. These include multiple crash bags, a Side Impact Protection System, whiplash protection for the front seats and Isofix child seat anchors.
