Volvo Cars has launched the ES90, an all-electric model that defies traditional categorisation, blending elements of a sedan, fastback and SUV into a single design. Positioned as a versatile addition to the brand’s electric lineup, the ES90 aims to merge elegance, adaptability and practicality without compromise.

The ES90’s silhouette showcases a raised ride height for improved road visibility, paired with a flowing roofline that balances aerodynamics with interior space. Its front features Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer headlights, while the rear introduces C-shaped LED lamps and a unique light sequence. Buyers can select from seven exterior colours and wheel sizes ranging from 20 inches to 22 inches.

Underpinned by Volvo’s SPA2 architecture, the ES90 debuts 800V technology for faster charging — capable of adding 300 km of range in 10 minutes — and a WLTP-certified range of up to 700 km. Its dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin core computers enhance safety and performance, supported by over-the-air updates.

“This is a leap in software-defined vehicles,” says Chief Technology Officer Anders Bell.

The cabin prioritises comfort with a 3,1-metre wheelbase, offering ample legroom and configurable boot space (424 litres to 733 litres). A 22-litre front trunk accommodates charging cables, while an optional electrochromic panoramic roof adjusts transparency to reduce glare. The interior features six ambient lighting themes, a four-zone climate system with advanced air purification, and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos for immersive audio.

True to Volvo’s ethos, the ES90 integrates Safe Space Technology, combining lidar, cameras, and sensors to detect hazards and monitor driver attention. A cabin occupancy system can detect subtle movements, such as a child’s breathing, to prevent occupants from being left behind.
Order books are now open across 17 European markets, including the UK, Germany, and France, with global expansion planned through 2026. Priced as a premium offering, the ES90 joins Volvo’s growing electric portfolio, which includes the EX90 and EX30.

CEO Jim Rowan states, “The ES90 embodies Scandinavian design and cutting-edge tech, crafted to enhance everyday life. It’s a flagship model that underscores our commitment to electrification and innovation.”
