Mahindra South Africa has expanded its single-cab lineup with the introduction of the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up, a model aimed squarely at the commercial user who needs a straightforward work vehicle without unnecessary frills. The new range arrives as a strategic move to bolster the brand’s presence in a segment where it already holds a significant share, particularly among small business owners, farmers and fleet operators who keep a close eye on operating costs.
The Bolero MaXX is available in three distinct variants, each defined by its load capacity. The 1.3 City can handle 1,3 tonnes, the 1.5 City takes 1,5 tonnes, and the 1.7 HD is rated for 1,7 tonnes. Pricing starts at R199 000 for the entry-level model, rises to R229 000 for the mid-range option and tops out at R259 000 for the heavy-duty version.
Practicality has been a clear priority in the design. The load bin lengths vary according to the model, with the 1.3 City offering 2,5 metres, the 1.5 City stretching to 2,64 metres, and the 1.7 HD providing 3,05 metres of loading space. All three versions accept a standard pallet between the wheel arches, which simplifies loading and unloading for businesses that handle regular freight dimensions.

Despite these capacities, all models remain within the Code B driver’s licence classification, a feature that removes the need for operators to secure specialised licences or employ drivers with additional endorsements. The compact footprint and relatively low mass also make these vehicles easier to manoeuvre in tight urban environments or on crowded industrial sites where larger trucks would struggle.
Fuel consumption is claimed at 5,9 l/100 km across the range, which translates into predictable running costs for high-mileage users. Service intervals are set at 20 000 kilometres, a schedule that reduces downtime and keeps maintenance visits to a minimum.
The engine line-up consists of Mahindra’s m2Di diesel units, with the 1.3 City and 1.5 City producing 52 kW and 200 Nm of torque, while the 1.7 HD steps up to 60 kW and 220 Nm. All variants use rear-wheel drive and a five-speed manual gearbox, a straightforward mechanical layout that favours durability over complexity.
Standard warranty coverage runs for four years or 120 000 kilometres, with roadside assistance included for the same period. Customers who prefer fixed ownership costs can opt for service plans, though these are not bundled into the standard price.

The cabin layout follows a driver-plus-two seating arrangement, with wide cloth seats that prioritise function over styling. On the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD, the seat fabric receives a stain-resistant coating, and the driver’s seat adds reclining, reach and height adjustment. Air-conditioning, heating and demisting are fitted to these two higher-spec models, along with a lockable air-cooled glovebox, bottle holders and a 12V power socket.
Safety equipment includes rear parking sensors as standard on all versions, while anti-lock brakes are reserved for the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD. The heavy-duty variant also benefits from reinforced metal bumpers and additional underbody and side protection.
All models come with an immobiliser and emergency locking retractor seatbelts for the driver and passengers. Mahindra has also introduced support programmes aimed at improving the ownership experience, including a Reach-Out initiative that promises to acknowledge and address customer queries within 24 hours and a dedicated dealer fleet strategy that trains dealerships to handle commercial sales more effectively. These efforts are supported by a national network of more than 100 dealerships and ongoing investment in parts supply infrastructure.
The existing Pik Up S4 and S6 range remains available for customers who require higher-speed or longer-distance transport, meaning the Bolero MaXX does not replace those models but instead sits alongside them as a more load-focused alternative.
Together, the two families cover a broad spectrum of single-cab applications, from local deliveries and construction site haulage to agricultural work and municipal services.
