While Nissan has ceased local manufacturing, the company is moving to assure South African buyers that it remains in the country as an importer for the long term. The brand will make its presence felt at the Nampo Harvest Day in Bothaville from May 12 to 15, one of the largest agricultural gatherings in the Southern Hemisphere.

The decision to exhibit at the event forms part of Nissan’s broader focus on the local market and its continued investment in the agricultural sector. The partnership runs deep, stretching back more than six decades to when the first Nissan pick-up models arrived in the country.

To mark this history, Nissan will display a selection of its most recognisable vehicles from its own heritage collection. This includes one-off models from the brand’s South African racing division.

Ramy Mohareb, Head of Communications, Brand and Customer Experience for Nissan Africa, says the agricultural value chain remains a substantial contributor to South Africa’s GDP and a lifeline for many communities.

“Nissan’s participation in the Nampo Harvest Day reflects an enduring partnership with the farming community, built on a local heritage of more than 60 years, an understanding of what it means to work the land, and a range of vehicles engineered to match that dedication,” says Mohareb.

He adds that Nampo, as one of the country’s most important platforms for the agricultural sector, allows Nissan to engage directly with customers who depend on capable and reliable vehicles season after season.

The company points to its dealer network as further evidence of its long-term commitment. On average, Nissan customers are never more than 25 minutes away from a dealership offering accredited aftermarket support and service, thanks to a wide expansion of the network.

“Nissan dealers are from the community, and they support Nissan customers with dedication, world class service levels, as well as local knowledge and expertise,” says Mohareb.

The Nissan Navara Warrior, developed by Premcar, will be among several Nissan vehicles on display at this year’s event. The Navara range is designed with agricultural customers in mind, engineered to suit both functional and lifestyle needs on and off the tar.

With 85 years of global bakkie heritage behind it, the Navara features a fully boxed frame, dual rate coil suspension, and upgraded brakes engineered for towing up to 3.5 tonnes and loading up to 1.1 tonnes, depending on the model. It is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that delivers 140 kW and 450 Nm of torque, with a powertrain adapted to improve towing stability.

A full range of accessories is available for fitment at Nissan dealerships, allowing owners to personalise their Navara without affecting the mechanical warranty.
