iCAUR is set to broaden its presence in South Africa later this year with the introduction of the 03T REEV, a range?extended electric version of its compact, box?shaped SUV. The model is scheduled to arrive in the fourth quarter and will join the brand’s growing local line?up.
The 03T REEV uses an electric motor to drive the rear wheels, supported by a turbocharged 1,5?litre petrol engine that operates solely as a generator. The system is designed to allow daily electric commuting while retaining the convenience of refuelling for longer trips. According to Shannon Gahagan, Head of Brand and Marketing at iCAUR and OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, the range?extender approach suits local driving conditions, offering home charging during the week and conventional refuelling when travelling further afield.

Power comes from a rear?mounted electric motor rated at 185 kW and 300 Nm. iCAUR lists a 0–100 km/h time of 7,9 seconds and a maximum speed of 170 km/h. The vehicle carries a 33,67 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, with a claimed electric range of 190 km on the NEDC cycle. With the petrol generator assisting, total range is estimated at 800 km.
The charging system supports both AC and DC inputs. AC charging is capped at 6,6 kW, while DC fast charging can take the battery from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes under favourable conditions. Vehicle?to?load capability is included for powering external equipment.
The SUV measures 4 550 mm in length, 1 950 mm in width and 1 785 mm in height. It retains the squared?off styling of its battery?electric sibling and uses an aluminium body structure that reduces weight by more than 30% compared with steel and delivers torsional rigidity of 31 812 Nm/deg. The five?seat model rides on 19?inch wheels and sends power to the rear axle.

South African versions will feature a 15,6?inch central touchscreen, a 9,2?inch digital instrument display and an eight?speaker sound system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50 W wireless charging pad and multi?zone voice control form part of the standard equipment list. The cabin includes leather upholstery and ventilated, electrically adjustable front seats.
Driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane?keep assist, forward collision warning and a 540?degree camera system.
The 03T REEV is positioned as an accessible step into electrified motoring, offering electric driving for daily use with the reassurance of a petrol generator for extended travel. Pricing, final specifications and exact launch timing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s arrival.
