It is one thing to ride a motorcycle to very limits of performance and adhesion on a purpose-built race track but to do the same on narrow public roads with curbs, walls, trees and the odd manhole cover is something else entirely but for South African road racer AJ Venter it is a calling.

And, he is on the brink of a rare achievement in international motorcycle racing. Come 2026, he will take his 50th start at the Isle of Man TT, a milestone reached by only a handful of riders since the event first ran in 1907.

Now entering his 10th straight year at what many call the world’s most unforgiving road race, Venter’s journey stands as a notable moment for South African sport on a stage where local competitors are seldom seen.

His campaign is backed by FuturExotics, a home-grown luxury automotive brand that stepped in with a three-year, R4.2 million partnership in 2025. That deal marked the company’s first real move into international motorsport, and one year in, the returns have been plain to see.

Venter turned heads at the 2025 TT with a top?15 finish in the Superbike class from a field of 54. He also pushed past the 300 km/h mark for the first time, clocking a personal best of 304 km/h. More than that, he set a new average lap speed of 204 km/h, making him the fastest South African ever to lap the Mountain Course. That places him 61st on the all?time list of thousands who have raced the TT since 1907.

For the coming season, race watchers have placed Venter inside the top 20 rider predictions for the first time in his career. He also heads into 2026 with something he has rarely enjoyed as a privateer: structured pre?event testing. That shift means he can focus on riding rather than chasing logistics.

His machine for the job is a heavily modified BMW S 1000 RR, fitted with K?Tech suspension, custom Motec ECU software, a full aerodynamic fairing kit, and an extended 24?litre fuel tank – all built to handle sustained runs above 300km/h. Both the bike and Venter’s leathers will carry a fresh FuturExotics livery, signalling a tighter, more performance?focused partnership.

“When I think about the injuries, the sacrifices, and everything it has taken to get here, and then I look at where I am now with Zunaid Moti and FuturExotics fully behind me going into my tenth year at the TT, it genuinely takes my breath away,” Venter said. “This year is about showing exactly what we are capable of on the world stage.”

FuturExotics founder Zunaid Moti added: “Last year showed us exactly what AJ is capable of. To compete at this level, consistently, in an environment like the TT, takes exceptional skill and resilience. What stands out most is that he continues to improve. This partnership is about backing South African talent on a global stage and demonstrating that, with the right support, we can compete with the best in the world.”

Venter’s all?South African crew also made noise in 2025. During the Superbike TT, they recorded the third?fastest pit stop at just 53 seconds, outperforming several international and factory?backed teams – a clear sign of the depth of local know?how behind him.

The Isle of Man TT remains one of the most demanding events in motorsport, with riders threading narrow public roads between stone walls and through village streets at average speeds north of 200km/h.

“I spend a lot of time working with young riders here in South Africa, and I want them to see what’s possible,” Venter said. “I’m just someone who kept showing up and doing the work. If I can get here, so can they.”

The 2026 TT runs from late May to early June, and South African motorsport fans will be watching closely as Venter reaches a career milestone that few have ever claimed.
